Marriage among 1st cousins

Recommended Posts

What do you think of 1st cousin marriage/relationships?

http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/04/05/cousins.marriage.ap/index.html

According to the article, genetics is not a factor. So, as fars as we know, biologically it's not a high risk to have kids with your 1st cousin.

Only 26 states in the US allow 1st cousin marriage. It's legal in Canada and Europe.

What are your thoughts?

What is up with all of the cousin love?!?! This is like the third or fourth post I've seen on LS in recent weeks.

Incest city!!!!

I think it's ridiculous. How many billions of people do we have on this Earth? And we just happen to fall for someone in our family???!!! No way, man.

Stop the insanity.

Not in Asia. If you can trace back to a common ancestor this person is taboo.

I remember reading Agatha Christie thrillers and there were always so many people in her books marrying their first cousins. I thought this seemed to be something quite normal in England. Don't know if this is still that normal there.

In my family it would be NAAAAAAS-TAY, because all the kids are around each other all the time. It would be like f*cking your brother.

I didn't read the article, but my mother told me that she couldn't marry the love of her life because they were first cousins. They adored each other and wanted to spend the rest of their lives together, but could not. They were forced to move away from each other and eventually marry other people. I thought that was sad that they couldn't marry the one they really loved, but then again I think of my cousins and, yuck! No way could I marry a first cousin. Of course, I don't like my cousins anyway--they are truly despicable people---much like their mother, but still it doesn't 'feel' right to me somehow.

Don't many royals marry within their own bloodlines? And weren't Ashley and Melanie Wilks first cousins? (Wilks's always marry their cousins right! ) It wasn't a scandal when the movie came out, or the book. It was something that was accepted among certain groups of people.

Not in Asia.

Marriage among 1st, 2nd and 3rd cousins is common on the Indian sub-continent. Last time I checked that was part of Asia.

And since I am indian I probably know better. I have a bunch of 1st and 2nd cousins that intermarried.

Alpha, would you marry your first cuz?

I was offered to marry 2 of my 1st cousins in arranged marriages but since personally for me it was not a good idea since I was brought up here. But I don't think there is anything wrong with it otherwise.

and pathetic ... there are billions of people in this world...

getting it on with your relatives is just not right.

ok, WOULD YOU marry your mothers brother?? Your uncle??

If your into incest, what is the difference if it is your uncle, aunt, counsin, sister?

It's not that people are 'into incest'. It's that people in the same family aren't necessarily brought up together.

The only reason you think it's 'disgusting' is because it's a law in your country. It isn't in other countries and the earth hasn't quit rotating yet.
