SixthSt.Girl
For the past two days, I've been getting a brownish discharge tinged with blood. I'm not sure if it's an early period or something more serious. It's a week too soon for that - my cycle is kind of irregular, but I rarely ever get periods at this time. I don't think that I'm pregnant, but last weekend (which is a pretty risky time), I had sex - he withdrawled and we used a condom. The condom, though, had been unwrapped and not used. I stuck it in a pouch so it wasn't exposed to the air for long. It looked ok, but I'm not sure if it being exposed had an affect on it. I also worry because of the precum issue - he is good at predicting, but I don't think he can control that. We should've been more careful, but I don't believe I'm pregnant. I've never had anything like this before, so I'm a little worried. I guess it could be spotting, or maybe something like the weather changes had an affect on my cycle? I feel fine, though I've been experiencing PMS-like symptoms. Does anyone know what could be the cause of this, or experience it yourself? Thanks for your help - I will continue to do searches on the topic, though I haven't found much yet... OK, I found a similar thread on the sexual health forum, though it's not exactly the same thing I'm dealing with...

HokeyReligions
Do you have any itching or burning? Was sex uncomfortable? Any burning during urination? It's probably nothing but a normal discharge--maybe even due to a change in diet. You could look on WebMD under "Vaginitis" to see if you match any of the other symptoms. If your period is normal and you it doesn't happen again I wouldn't worry about it too much before your next PAP smear, but if you are concerned and haven't had a PAP in a while, it might be a good time for an exam. Linlin
Sounds like it could be an early period. Or was the sex very active and you irritated your cervix. That could cause it too. Never trust withdrawal and always use a fresh unwrapped condom.
moimeme
Could even be ovulation. See if anything further happens. If not, you're probably fine.
XNemesisX
I'm sure you are fine. I don't think you could be pregnant. From what I've heard, it isn't as easy to get pregnant as people think. Unless you have unprotected sex during the 3 days of ovulation or a little before it, you shouldn't even worry about pregnancy. A lot of my friends still think that you can get pregnant during your period and I don't know WHO started this rumor but it's just silly. Sounds like just a little bit of breakthrough bleeding. Was he *cough* very large? This could have something to do with it too...
Author SixthSt.Girl
Well, it only lasted a couple days - no period yet. I thought it could be an early period, but it was just spotting. I'm supposed to get my period this upcoming week, so we shall see. Sounds like just a little bit of breakthrough bleeding. Was he *cough* very large? We sometimes go a week or two and that can cause some discomfort at first, but I've never had any bleeding or pain as a result.
GirlDown
i do know that it isn't as easy to get pregnant as people think...but as for getting pregnant during your period...yes that can happen... i found this is online also, at a reputable medical source... Can you get pregnant during your period? The debate on whether or not a woman can get pregnant during her period has been going on for decades now. Just like every woman is different, so are her hormonal balances and hence her menstrual cycle. Though there are generalities on which some ground basics of menstruation and pregnancy can be formed, but eventually it all boils down to individual physiology. So, yes, you can get pregnant during your periods. There is a definite chance that any woman can get pregnant during her periods. Though the chances of pregnancy during periods are usually low, they exist for all women. During periods, the chances of pregnancy are comparatively lower at the onset of a woman's period and increase just after her periods. The truth is that there is no predictable time during the month when the risk of pregnancy can be said to be absent. as far as i know, you can get pregnant at any time, it depends on the individual. sorry if you were being facetious and i jumped the gun... Author SixthSt.Girl
I just wanted to make sure - women usually ovulate two weeks before their period, right? If so, then that was a good time for implantation, then pregnancy, to happen - I know that it's unlikely, but I always have fears of pregnancy. I remember my gyno saying that if I don't want to become pregnant, I need to get on the pill. Aye yi, I really hope I'm not pregnant. I wouldn't think so, but I've been having some strange symptoms - a ravenous appetite, and then sometimes a complete aversion to food, headaches and moodswings. I wonder if it would be too soon to take a OTC test? I should just wait, I guess.
Mr Spock
Can't spotting happen at anytime, really? It can when you're on the pill, anyways.
XNemesisX
If I'm not mistaken you ovulate approx 14 days after the FIRST day of your period. The ovulation period is 3 days but sperm can live up to 3 days in your body so if you have sex a few days before ovulation you can still get pregnant. I think the 14 day rule is based on the typical 28 day cycle of most women. I would say that getting pregnant while on your period would have to be REALLY unlikely and strange. But back to the main topic... I wonder if it would be too soon to take a OTC test? I should just wait, I guess. How long has it been since you had sex with him? I could be totally wrong here so someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you have to wait 10-14 days after the said sexual encounter before you can get an accurate reading. I think this has something to do with waiting for the egg to implant itself in the uterus and only then can the pregnancy hormones be detected. Waiting is the hard part, isn't it? I'm kind of in the same situation right now. I'm a little worried myself if I could be pregnant because I stopped taking the pill about 4 months ago and I had unprotected sex right at the time I *gulp* later realized it was probably my ovulation phase. I'm trying to wait until I get the missed period before jumping to any conclusions but the suspense is killing me. I have tried to make myself feel better by reminding myself that most people have a hard time getting pregnant right off othe bat after long term bcp use. Also, I think heavy smokers also have a less likely chance of conceiving. (supposedly). How would you feel if you were pregnant? I know this is sort of off topic..but would you be okay with it? I think I would be very upset if I find out that I am. I'm trying not to read too much into all my symptoms because I have the crazy appetite too right now and mood swings. I choke it up to possibly just being a little bit of PMS. HOPEFULLY!

HOPEFULLY! i hear you, nemesis. i just went through the same thing, but luckily, it was just "the little p" instead of "THE BIG P." i'll cross my fingers and send my vibes your way! and sixthstgirl...really, it could be anything or nothing...my sister had that happen a lot, and she has endometriosis. she had other symptoms too, but that was one. if you're worried, get checked out. it's a pain in the ass, but you'll know what's up. I'm not happy at all about the thought of pregnancy. The guy I am with and I decided mutually that we don't want a romantic relationship - we are more like "friends." We both don't want kids, so that is why we make sure we're careful (usually). I'm also trying to chalk up my symptoms to other things - our weird weather, possible career change, etc. I still have worry in the back of my mind all the time. Ok, this is what I read from a helpline website: "Ovulation is calculated by starting with the first day of the cycle or the day the menstrual period starts. Most women ovulate anywhere between Day 11-Day 18 of their cycle." That is a pretty large window. I don't even remember when I had p last month - my cycle is pretty irregular. It was around the 15th I think... so I guess it's pretty possible - granted the condom, which may've gone bad (though it didn't appear to be ripped or dried out) and the withdrawl method, which I've heard various opinions on. I wish there was a predictability chart or an equation for this....
Author SixthSt.Girl
my sister had that happen a lot, and she has endometriosis. she had other symptoms too, but that was one. Ok, I'm not even going to try to guess what endometriosis is - I need a sex ed class. I've never had this before. I had some spotting before when I was on the pill and my period was re-adjusting to that. But not the discharge tinged with blood. It was also accompanied by a dull cramping on my left side. I have had the dull cramping before, only in the past couple of months. I didn't think it was period-related at all, as it would occur at different times throughout the month. However, this month it's only happened in the past couple of days. I don't want to go to the doctor for it, but I might if I skip my period and/or this returns. I'm due for a yearly physical in July, anyway, so I may go early and mention it then.
GirlDown
it's something like scar tissue where it shouldn't be in the uterus and surrounding that causes many, many problems. it's very painful, so if you don't have pain i doubt it's that. if it makes you feel any better, this month my cycle started on the 7th, last month on the 1st, and the month before on the 18th...so i'm all over the place. school, moving, stress, anxiety, not living with females anymore, all of it has made me one unpredictable girl! it's frustrating, but there's so many things that cause it to start early or delay. don't panic yet.
