Who has a FB account? Who doesn't, and why do or don't you have one?

I'm curious, little research project of myself into social media madness, trying to figure out whether it really IS impossible to have a complete life without it or not..

Those of you who do have an account, what are your reasons and those who don't...what are yours?

Yes I believe it is possible to have a MORE than complete life without FB, because your quality of life and health will improve. I believe it is an unhealthy medium for social interaction. Cancelled mine few years ago, life is much better without. I don't even miss it, it feels like a parallel universe of fakeness.

Research on toxicity to health and negative psychology reasons are top of list. I read two very interesting articles on te subject. It constantly triggers the limbic system, the area of the brain involved with emotions. Glucocorticoids are released, meaning you are always in a state of stress, even if you think you're happy. It can leave you wanting more and more, and then feeling emotionally starved. The concept itself has evolved to be unreal, it's a place of popularity contests, mindgames, perversion, information overload, 'theatre' as someone else commented.

I have one... I half-wish I could delete it, because I hate what it has become. When I first joined, it was a way of staying in contact with your high school friends after going off to different universities, but shortly afterwards it turned into another Myspace, and now I feel like I never signed up for such a breach in my privacy.

In the beginning I remember you could choose to keep your profile picture hidden from non-FB friends, but they later changed that. I remember my mom found out about a bf of mine because she apparently googled my name and saw my profile pic(this sounds kinda creepy but my mom wouldn't actually try very hard to search for me online normally lol). I tried to hide my profile pic and then Facebook told me something like "Hiding your profile picture might prevent you from connecting with others", and I kept thinking, "That's the whole idea!".

Over the years, FB has updated its privacy policy time and time again, and I feel like I have no other choice but to agree to the policy regardless of whether or not I actually do agree with it.

I feel like I can't delete it at this point, because there are so many people I've met over the years that I would lose contact with. I know a lot of the time we don't talk, but there have been a lot of people I've connected with years later, purely because we've remained friends on FB. Before I used to have MSN and e-mail to stay in contact with people, but these days MSN doesn't exist and e-mail is too much of a hassle(besides, people are constantly changing theirs). A lot of my friends are in other countries and in other timezones, so other forms of communication wouldn't really be effective.

I have a Facebook account, but I don't really have a good reason to have it. When I was dating my ex, she'd post pictures of us, statuses, etc. It was more fun to be on it then. Now I go on it and it's just a lot of people posting about a lot of things that I don't care about. I also don't post anything, or have any pictures of myself on my profile that weren't with her.

I'd already closed my FB, today it was time to close my other social network account: LinkedIn.

Honestly, It's nice to have others recommend you and your competitions, but in the 10 (?) years that I've been active on LinkedIn, I've found a total number of 0 jobs through there. So what's the use? Except for seeing people post boring blogs on their jobs and others post riddles about "how mant triangles do you see"?

I decided I will go straight to news providing websites if I need company updates, or better, to the company's websites.

Ps. Update on the complete life without FB: My life is now MORE than complete. I've become truly more productive, and I'm still in great contact with my closest friends. No FB needed for me thanks. Life's so much better and at more natural pace without social networking...I realize this might sound odd, bt still it's how I feel.

I have one because it increases my chances of meeting someone, that's how it works nowadays, but the instant I find someone you can bet your lucky stars I will delete it. No IG and no Twitter.

In A rocky marriage the last thing I want is to be more vulnerable .

I am in a situation where if I get liked by someone , I might start an emotional affair !

I thought about this....but then again I wouldn't be able to like someone that's very active on social media...

Me neither, but not everyone is a narcissist on facebook , some post moderately and I am not going to say I wouldn't like her posting a picture of us together, I would love it. I have FB but I am not even remotely active, I am just there.
