glamtran Posted March 4, 2015 Share Posted March 4, 2015 Hi I've lived in the same city my whole life, even though the economy is good, living is reasonable, and the few friends and family I have are all here, I have always fantasized about moving away, starting over with anonymity. I had the opportunity to this summer, but I backed out last minute because I was overcome with anxiety and almost a type of depression over it, especially as I planned it more. So that probably means I'm not truly ready, right? Also, like I said I only have a few meaningful people in my life. I struggle with loneliness and sometimes dealing with a few, potentially dramatic people is better than having no one, I know I can't live in isolation either. Any thoughts or observations? d0nnivain Posted March 5, 2015 Share Posted March 5, 2015 If you became too anxious thinking about it, I wouldn't do it. When you get there you won't have a support system. Starship Posted March 5, 2015 Share Posted March 5, 2015 One of the best things any young adult can do is 'leave home'. It's a positive to experience more in life. There is nothing wrong with living in your home town...as long as it is out of knowledge and choice. Anxiety? Meh. Who doesn't get this? It's a bit like being afraid to fly on a plane...quite a normal anxiety that average people like yourself overcome. What is the worse scenario? You won't starve or be sold into slavery. The worse is you'll be lonely, miss familiar friends, routines, etc. You can always return. Way worse is alway doubting yourself and wondering 'what if'. Today people have the Internet, text. There are Meet Up groups. Not as intimidating to move way as it was even 30 years ago. Link to post Share on other sites
compulsivedancer Posted March 5, 2015 Share Posted March 5, 2015 Have you been to college yet? That's an easy way to move to a new town but still have a good safety net. Lots of people your age who are in the same place as you. I did that and it was really nice to be away from family, but still close enough that I could go home for vacations. I am currently thinking of relocating. Lately I've been thinking of joining the Peace Corps. Link to post Share on other sites
