Psychologist Or Psychiatrist

What's the difference between a psychologist or a psychiatrist? When should you see one or the other?

Go to a psychologist first. They generally give talk therapy, psychotherapy, and stuff. Psychologists GENERALLY cannot prescribe medication, though, so they refer you to a psychiatrist for the medication. The Psychiatrist GENERALLY does not do talk therapy. There is generally a degree of coorespondence between the two.

 

One usually goes to a psychologist first, and he/she refers you to a cooperating or associated psychiatrist.
