I look like a fashionista?

I would guess she likes the way you dress and look because you dress well & look cool.

Of course it could be sarcastic or an attempt at humour, if you could not be ever described in that way.

Just a random comment from a girl on plenty of fish

So, given the urban dictionary, and that's what I also understand it to mean, what in your profile would give her that impression? How do you dress? This could be helpful feedback as to who you are or are not attracting.

Sounds to me like she's saying you look kind of shallow; the kind of person who cares a little too much about clothes. I'd imagine that it's only meant as a compliment if the person saying it is also interested in high fashion. Otherwise it's probably a weird dig at you.

If from a woman, it is a compliment.

I love a well dressed man who has the confidence to dress sharply and to experiment in his attire...shows independence.

Always try and set yourself apart from the mob.

If the comment is from a girl, girls love fashion, at least most of them, so it's probably complimentary. Don't dress down for someone no matter what. Be your best self.

I don't think it's a good thing in this context.

I think it was a way of saying that you look gay or bi when the woman who said it was looking for a straight hetero guy.

I may also mean you look high maintenance or at the very least not rugged or masculine enough for her.

If it was a compliment, she would have said something more like he looks GQ or is well dressed.

In another thread you said you were thin. That probably adds to the misconception. How do you dress? If you don't have a style yet, pick the toughest guy you can think of & emulate that if it's comfortable for you.

My first thought mirrors what gaius and d0nnivain said...the person most likely thinks you look effeminate. Or that you're vain. "Fashionista" is not a word that the average person (man or woman) tosses around...especially not as a compliment. It's more along the lines of the terms "pretty boy" or "metro". "Fashionista" is likely only said as a compliment when the person saying it is into high fashion him/herself.

It's generally not socially acceptable in the eyes of the mainstream (i.e. the average Joe and Jane) for a guy to look like he's overly picky on what he wears, or looks like he takes 30+ minutes to get dressed and ready. (In both cases, he seems like he cares too much about clothes.) That's far more acceptable for women. Sorry, but that's just the way it is.

For guys, it's generally considered preferable to look at least decently put-together without trying too hard. Wear neat, properly fitting clothes, with colors/patters that don't clash...and also look like you only spent a brief amount of time deciding what to wear and getting dressed. This can help you give off a bit more of a relaxed, masculine vibe without looking sloppy or overly self-conscious. Sometimes, a simple clean untucked t-shirt and jeans, or a polo (leave the top 1-2 buttons unbuttoned) and khakis is plenty good enough.

I wouldn't take that as an insult if you do, in fact, dress well. Most women like that more so than a guy who can't get out of sweats and t-shirts. Yeah, some girls do like guys who look 3 days since their last shower and groom, but not a lot.

Question is: do you dress well or was she being facetious?
