alphamale
you folks could argue your opinions and viewpoints for the rest of time and no one is going to change anyone else's thinking. it's too subjective and emotional and nothing can be proven, from either side.

I like controversy and intelligent argument where there is at least some possibility of winning or making a point. In this particular subject matter there is no way of winning or making a point or changing someone's though process. Give it a rest

BlockHead
Arguing that Freud’s ideas about religion are correct simply because Freud made them is an Argumentum ad verecundiam (argument or appeal to authority). He was hardly an expert on religion in general. Arguing that Christians a obedient backward people is hardly a clever straw man argument. The critics are basically asking Christians to defend the critics' narrow-minded atheistic views of Christianity. These views are complete with stereotypes, and various scriptural inaccuracies. There also seems to be a game of semantics floating around. http://www.m-w.com faith 1 a : allegiance to duty or a person : LOYALTY b (1) : fidelity to one's promises (2) : sincerity of intentions 2 a (1) : belief and trust in and loyalty to God (2) : belief in the traditional doctrines of a religion b (1) : firm belief in something for which there is no proof (2) : complete trust 3 : something that is believed especially with strong conviction; especially : a system of religious beliefs synonym see BELIEF religion 1 a : the state of a religious <a nun in her 20th year of religion> b (1) : the service and worship of God or the supernatural (2) : commitment or devotion to religious faith or observance 2 : a personal set or institutionalized system of religious attitudes, beliefs, and practices 3 archaic : scrupulous conformity : CONSCIENTIOUSNESS 4 : a cause, principle, or system of beliefs held to with ardor and faith religious 1 : relating to or manifesting faithful devotion to an acknowledged ultimate reality or deity <a religious person> <religious attitudes> 2 : of, relating to, or devoted to religious beliefs or observances 3 a : scrupulously and conscientiously faithful b : FERVENT, ZEALOUS Yes, the atheists have faith in science.
