NTB
really this question is for the guys but i guess if any of the females can help me out with any advise that would be cool too. i don't think i have sensative skin but maybe i could my facial hair grows fast so i am always shaving but i tend to break out right around my neck and under my chin if i shave every other day. in order to not break out i have to go a couple of days without. anyway is there anything i could put on or try differently so that i can shave every other day and not break out or maybe even break out allot less???? any advise or tips would be great thanks
lostgirl26
Well, make sure you shave in the direction of the hair not against it, that will cause ingrowns and breaking out. Make sure you use a shave gel or cream that you are not allergic to. That might the issue right there. There is a product out there that is sold by companies like Pajama Parties or at the Hustler stores(don't ask me why you can only buy it at those places, I guess because of the name), its called Cootchie Cream. Its really silky feeling, not greasy but it is specifically made for shaving "those areas" but can be used anywhere else. It's a little expensive but you only use a little bit. I have sworn by it for years. Try waiting till the very end of a shower or bath when you shave, the hair will soften up Otherwise you might want to talk to a dermatologist about it, you might just need some meds for acne. I would suspect though that you are maybe shaving too hard and your skin has not had the chance to soften up. One other thing you could try if you are in a hurry or something. Run a washcloth under pretty hot water and just put up to your face for a few minutes, it will open your pores and help soften the hairs. Hope that was a little help and sorry I am not a guy... westernxer
Stephen King wrote a story that included a high school principal with an overshaved neck... really made me shudder. Anyway, do you use a straight razor or electric? I recommend a straight razor, like the Mach 3 from Gilette. Those are really nice, and they're well worth the price you have to pay for them. Straight razors ensure a much closer shave and don't leave irritating bumps or patches if you use them right. You can, however, cut yourself if you're not careful... that's the only drawback. I shave in two parts... the first part is just a prep routine, in which I shave with the grain. I douse my face with warm water, apply a coat of shaving cream, and only go over the area once with a warm razor. Even if I don't get everything smooth, that's okay. The second part will take care of that... another coat of shaving cream, a warm razor, and nice, smooth strokes across and against the grain, because now my face and neck areas are more receptive to the blade, since they've been prepped during the first part. When you're done, rinse your face and neck in COLD water. Then use an aftershave of choice. That is essential, plus you'll smell good.

Lil Honey
Thanks, Westernxer, for the visual. There is just something about watching a man shave his face that is sooooo relaxing, sooooo MMMMMM. I LOVE the part of the movie Phenomenon when John Travolta is being shaved by his girlfriend. It is very sensual and I think it's cuz he is so vulnerable. I dunno. (At least that is what someone told me might be the reason I like that scene.) I used to like to stand and watch my ex shave, but he didn't like an audience . . .
westernxer
Anytime, Lil Honey. I've saw that movie with a date back in college, and I have to admit that the shaving scene was the best part of the movie. Other than that, I thought the movie sucked, but that's just me (I certainly didn't say this to my date). You're always welcome to stop by and watch me do it for real. I recommend "The Man Who Wasn't There" to anyone interested in seeing how a sexy woman shaves her legs. Frances McDormand looked so hot in that scene, running that razor across her skin as she soaks in a warm bubble bath. *Howl*
faux
I always used to have this same problem. The way society works today, no man learns the art of a proper shave. In the past, fathers used to pass this knowledge down to their sons in great detail. Now, it is just "go get a razor, some gel, and do like the models on TV that hawked the razor to you in the first place". The main problem that I have, is that the hairs on my neck all grow in very different directions. Resorting to an electric razor helps quite a bit, but I recently found a way to shave with a non-electric which does wonders for me. I do not see the point in describing in detail what I have learned, as there is a wonderful link on MSNBC that I highly recommend: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6886845/. Titled "how to get that perfect shave", I found this article to be incredibly helpful. I have yet to try out a badger-skin brush and tub lather, but there were enough points brought up that helped tremendously with my shaving experience. I notice now that someone did post this link above, but I cannot stress how useful I found this information to be.
