d0nnivain
I decided on my chosen career as a child then worked to achieve it. I have been in the field for 20+ years & own my own company. But I no longer enjoy it. I have to drag myself to work. I don't market the business the way I should. My customer service is mediocre at best. Still I make a very good living. What can I do to fall in love with my career again? Barring that, where do I turn to figure out if it's time to change paths? As bored as I am, nothing else is making me long to do that. preraph
Maybe instead of completely changing careers, you keep that lucrative one going but devote slightly less time to it, maybe specialize, and then let the proceeds from that allow you to follow as part-time or a hobby whatever your passion might be. There are things that are fun to do or rewarding, like charity, that only people with other sources of money can afford to do. Or maybe you simply stop working quite as much, pare it back, buy a weekend vacation spot and really refresh yourself at the end of every week. I know for a fact some people in the field I support in menial ways, which is litigation, work shortened work weeks and do just fine. At my age, my problem is I don't have a new passion. I've already done my music one and I can't fund doing my animal one to help animals. So I'm bored and in limbo just surviving, which is a waste. Hope you find some inspiration. SerCay
Maybe it's just time for a sabbatical Then after that you will realize how much you still love your job and you will be motivated again.
Michelle ma Belle
I've been here before. I've changed my career path and even my career a few times over the years either out necessity or sheer boredom. Some were simple variations or the same thing while others were dramatic leaps of faith. Every one of them worth the risk. I'm not sure what kind of work you do but most career paths have variations or spin-off career options that can often be the thing to reignite dormant or stagnant passions while still staying true to what you loved doing and invested so much time, energy and money. Sometimes reading the right book or attending the latest workshop about following one's bliss is enough to spark a new idea or help you turn the corner. Often times taking time off to reconnect with the things (and people) you loved to do but haven't had time for to will help bring things into better focus. If your business is doing well without any real effort on your part it seems a shame to abandon it entirely. Perhaps hiring someone to take the reins from you while you go off and sort things out for yourself might work for the short term. Sometimes going into partnership with another person or partnering up with complimentary businesses and/or associates is the ticket to turn things around. Regardless, it is difficult to get super specific about possibilities for how you can reposition yourself and/or your company so it feels fresh again without knowing what you do or what kind of field your in. Not sure if any of this makes sense or that it's even helpful but there you have it
