manders_01
Thinking my best course of action is to take a step back from my over-analyzing brain and get some completely unbiased thoughts. 10 years ago I moved to Denver to take a job. It turned out to be the world's suckiest job! Of all the crap that I went through at it, the worst was by far the fact that I was expected to stay late and work (a group of about 7 - 10 of us) several hours every night and come in on the weekends because we didn't have kids. Our "compensation" was that sometimes our firm would buy us dinner. I did not handle this job well and because I had just moved to take it, I was not in a position to just quit. So I got myself fired. Nothing radical just let myself get caught instant messaging at a high frequency. Shortly thereafter, I started at a new firm and was there for four years before the recession hit and they downsized to nobody. I have spent the last five years running my own business but am looking to go back to a firm. I have the luxury of finding something that's a good fit. I have interest in a firm that is hiring. However, one of my former co-workers, from the above firm, works there. Despite 10 years elapsing and neither he nor I having any idea what the other is currently like, I am still apprehensive about applying. Do I take the chance, with basically nothing to lose, or move on to the next opportunity?
Emerald_11
It might be a good thing that you already worked with someone who works there in the past. Just because that person is there doesn't mean they are going to make you work late like what happened before. It wouldn't hurt to check it out & go talk to them. If they offer you a position there you don't have to accept it if it doesn't feel right. But definitely do consider all of your options.
