Stuck 20lbs overweight

Recommended Posts

I am stuck! I have weighed the same for the last 3 years or so. I work out 5 days a week-doing both cardio and weight training, I watch what I eat, and I am very active otherwise. I had a child 4 years ago and before I got pregnant, I weighed about 140lbs. I got really big during my pregnancy weighing in at 198lbs during my last dr appt. I have lost all but that last 20lbs. I am not a tall person, so weighing an extra 20lbs makes me look like I weigh an extra 50. I don't know what else to try...any suggestions?

Have you thought about visiting a doctor? It might be something other than exercise and diet that contributes to your weight.

What is your workout like? Have you had the same workout for a while? Have you tried any other activies?

First of all, are you eating enough? You need to eat enough of the right stuff. Lower the carbs and increase the protein and veggies. Also I heard that if you vary the calorie amounts in your daily range that should help. Like one day eat 1700 and the next 1200 so your body doesn't adjust to it.

Someone of this site is a nutritionist. Hopefully they will respond.

As for exercise, vary what you are doing again. Cardio will hlp burn fat. Are you sweating when you are doing it and getting in your target heart range? Make sure to keep up with the weight training. Muscle burns more than fat. Also try doing pilates. It not only strengthens the core and gives a long lean look but it increases your flexiblility.

Hope this helps somewhat. :)

The weight training could be one reason why you find your weight is staying a bit up there.

Don't change anything in your routine without talking to a professional, such as a doctor and a nutritionist.

I want to start by thanking everyone that replied to my original post- To answer a few questions:

Yes, I have spoken to my doctor about this-not only my family doctor, but my GYN as well. I have been sent for tests and they have found nothing.

Yes, I vary my exercise routine-I get my heart rate up when doing cardio. I have a trainer at the gym that works with me and she says what I'm doing there is good-it changes about once a month-we add new things, take things away that aren't exactly necessary anymore.

I've not tried pilates-I may look into that.

Things were going great until about a year and half ago I hurt my knee and had to slow back down with the exercise but now I'm well past where I was before I hurt my knee. Most of my weight is carried at the belly. I have heard of the cortisol deal, does anyone have any experience with these drugs that claim get rid of belly fat?

I do lead a fairly stressful life, but I always feel much better after I work out.

I'm open for any other suggestions...and thanks again!

How about your diet? Do you tend to eat the same things regularly? Do you drink a lot of caffienated beverages?

see an Endocronologist.

Regular blood work at a doctor other than this type will fail to point out if you have hypothyriodism.

You need detailed & specific blood work to determine this. They will measure more than how much T4 your gland is producing.

See one soon...you could be loosing weight much easier than now.

I have the same problem you do, and I am petite as well, so even 10 lbs overweight looks more like 20 lbs overweight. Check it out.
