Mz. Pixie
Anyone watch the new NBC show Revelations last night?? It came on right after a special about The Davinci code. I never knew what that book was about until last night either. The show was pretty good- engrossing as a matter of fact. I enjoyed it I thought I would get everyone else's take on it. LucreziaBorgia
Here's what I posted somewhere else about it: I read a review where it was described as 'Catholic porn'. It was ok. I always found the book of Revelations in the NT bible fascinating. Read many interpretations and theories ranging from the metaphorical to the historical. I found interesting the idea in this show of tying in scientific explanations with religious paranormal type stuff. I can see how that would appeal to fundamentalists. I guess for this show, it is going for the idea that the 'word of God' is what it is, no matter how you see it: mystically or scientifically. Scientific explanations don't make things any less of a sign or word from God - it is just another way he communicates. That's what I got from this first episode anyway. Personally, I'm not religious at all - but I find religions and all the mystical type stuff associated with them interesting, and generally make for pretty fascinating fiction as well (barring the Left Behind series... I found the subject matter interesting, but the writing style to be not up to par for stuff I like to read.) The Catholics always seem to be the most interesting to me - something mysterious, ancient and almost lurid about Catholicism in general.
quankanne
(barring the Left Behind series... I found the subject matter interesting, but the writing style to be not up to par for stuff I like to read.) *snicker* really? and can you say, "flogging a dead horse"? I thought the writers could have done a tighter job with the content and had the story told in about three books, but then again, that'd mean less money because there would be less books to buy! I've not seen Revelation, but then again, I'm kind of picky about shows that deal with religion. The subject is fascinating, but from what I've read in Catholic News Service reviews, it sounds as if writers gave it a "Catholic" flavor by including a nun character, but then chooses to promote ideas that just don't jibe with Catholic teaching. the idea for this kind of show is a good one, but it sounds poorly executed because it presents a very false face of Catholicism. besides, I've never heard of a nun who is a "demon-buster," just priests who are trained exorcist. billybadass36
I started reading this series, but I found them too preachy to me. The writing was VERY elementary. I gave up after the third book. It just seemed so poorly written to me. I watched the TV show last night. I was into it. I think it's got some promise to it. I'm not religious at all, but I dig the topic. Chris777
It is a fairy tale conjured from the bible, just like so many others. If they keep it up they will end up outnumbering the bible in pages, if they already have not. the Entire left behind series, along with its doctrine is not even fit to be used as toilet paper. It would be better to burn it up into dust. God will Deal with them for leading his flock astray.
quankanne
God will Deal with them for leading his flock astray I say the simplistic, dragged out writing style oughta do the trick
