digdug75
I am working on becoming a better person. Found out that ego doesn't just pertain to arrogant people. I have read some of Sigmund Feud's theory on Ego's. I have read about egoism. Basically I found that an ego is a false sense of true self. It is a reprogram taking true self and rewiring it as some kind of defense mechanism. I have also read that Altruism is ego's opposite. I am wanting to know how to use this information to find my true self. I want to recognize and undo any false thoughts of who I am. I am also trying to wrap my head around the subject of Anatta (not self or no self) My hopes in post this is that I may get ideas in knowing how to differentiate between false self and true self. I think this will help me become less negative, have a high sense of self worth, help me to find more joy in life, and to truly know without a doubt that I am being honest with my actions, words, and intentions. Hopefully this will help me with developing strong healthy boundaries. So please if you have any opinions, ideas, articles to read, or anything else that you feel will be helpful let me know.
Tayla
wow! Quite the question you pose! It would take many books to figure that life long question answered! there is no quick fix. One tip I can share is simple - re-examine every belief you had handed to you and ask yourself if it applies. Chances are most beliefs you have been given are from influences of a younger age. As the saying goes.... the unexamined life is not worth living. Best to you, as this is a life quest.

Satu
Be exactly the same person on the outside and the inside. Done. Fixed.
SpiralOut
Have you read the book The Power of Now? I just finished reading it and it's great. It talks quite a bit about the ego and the mind and how we are neither our mind nor or ego. It gives advice about separating yourself from the mind and from the false self. Over and over he says that we must be "in the now" because our mind hates the now. It wants to be in the past or in the future where it can feel that it's in control. Another important concept is that we are not our mind, we are not our ego, we are not our things, our personality, our relationships, our past, our appearance. Author digdug75
Be exactly the same person on the outside and the inside. Done. Fixed. I thought that is what I have been doing, but I have been judge as a person pleaser. I have been told that I need to satisfy my ego? So I have researched these subjects. Some traits of the person pleaser applies but not all. I feel as though I am very honest. Then I read information about ego and how ego can deceive true self. Which then has let me to this post. I do not see how I am different on the outside compared to the inside. Just confused! Thanks for trying to make things simple for me.

I will look into this book "The Power Of Now". What you have described about the book seems similar to the Buddhism perception of "Not Self" or Anatta. Thanks for the suggestion.
