Using a girdle to lose weight

Recommended Posts

Has anyone heard of losing inches from your waist by wearing a girdle??? My 2 cousins swear by this, can it be true??? They have lost A LOT of weight already but I dunno, I have my doubts

A girdle doesn't make one lose weight, it simply compresses the fat and makes one firm. Depending on how a person is built, they could reduce the size of their waistline by several inches to fit into specific clothes---but the second the girdle comes off, the body bounces back.

There was an herbal girdle thing out some years ago. Supposedly if one wore this wrap/girdle it would make them lose weight. Not so. It came with a "protein drink" which was a laxative and it made people sweat so they would appear to have lose some weight, but it didn't show---or last. The company was shut down, but I think I heard something similar being advertised again.

Well I don't mean it helps to lose weight but it helps to lose inches....is that possible or have my cousins done it some other way?

There was another thread not so long ago about herbal wraps - yes, they can make you lose inches (of waterweight), drink a glass or two of water and it all comes back. So it might benefit you if you did it the day before the wedding if your dress is still snug - but there are no guarantees and depending upon where you go it can be pricey.

Keep drinking lots of water, exercise, eat moderately and think positively!! Get some good supportive underwear (girdle? control top panty hose?) and hope for the best.

My parents use to wear girdles. A looooong time ago. In my adult life, I figured they wore them to cover the 'rolls'. But now....idunno.

Naive...are you thinking of wearing a girtle now?! How long til the wedding?

Well My cousins have lost A LOT of weight using them. They say that it makes them sweat through out the day because they are made of some type of plastic material  I don't know if this is how they lost weight but they have lost a lot. One of them weighed about 180 pounds and she is down to 160 in about 2 months and the other one weighed about 170 and now she is like 130 in about 6 months. They swear that's the only thing they use or do.

My friends used to do something like that. Actually one of my firends now is using a plastic sweat suit to go jogging. It makes her sweat like crazy and it's helping her. One of my other friends has used a plastic trash bag. She just cut some holes in it and put it on like a shirt. She put a sweat shirt over that and went running. She lost a lot, but she used those to help sweat while exercising.

anything that makes you sweat and loose all that water You HAVE to make sure to keep Hydrated, and replenish more than you have lost!!!!

otherwise you will get really ill, and could cause serious damage to your heart, kidney, brain, and other organs....not to mention death!

of course that would be the extreme case, but it could happen!

Gosh girl, honestly there are no "easy" sure fire ways to lose weight other than hard excercise and good eating.........seriously...........a lot of those "lose weight quickly" remedies are scams to screw over the naive (no pun intended) insecure thin people of the world thinking they need to lose a few pounds/inches.......

You've got a very short time before the wedding, if you can't lose the inches that you need to lose in the meantime...maybe wearing a girtle (girdle) (don't know how to spell it) will help you squeeze down a size, to the size of the dress you need.....but honestly I doubt it will help much with the weight loss.........BUT of course I may very well be wrong! :p

yes, naive....as much as i hate to say it...you need to just drop some water weight (which will be inches too) quick.

so do what ever now, but then if you wanna keep it off definately do the healthy diet and exercise "thing".

I am taking dance at my school 3 times a week, which I've been doing for approximately 3 months.

I only have 3 weeks left!

You know I never thought that being a size 9 was that big!!! I only weight about 130-135 and I am 5'8"!!! What is happening to this world?

i just wish there were a standardized sizing system that clothing manufacturers would follow!

well, since you have been doing the dance, try some changes in your diet.

i try to eat very little bread, and white refined startchy foods...except sugar...i looooove sweet tea! :D

on the subject of sugar though. are you still drinking coke? i would try cutting out all coke, alcohol, candies.....any major sugary sources, at least till the wedding.

So how do I lose water weight?

Drink more water. The less water you drink the more your body will store. If you start receiving a consistent amount of water on a daily basis you body won't need to reserve as much and you will lose some water weight.

One more tip for the water weight - stay away from salt and salty foods - makes your body hang onto the water. Lots of green veggies - celery is a natural diuretic.

I don't know about a girdle, but I know that when I'm in my Ren Faire bodice I don't WANT to eat (as the bodice is tight around the midsection), and usually end up losing weight that way. :) But I don't advise it.

Actually, you can eat, but then you can't sit down.

I remember guys doing that during football practice in High School. They all swore by it.
