Samcrawford
Do you ever feel that you can do so much more with life? Or life is just passing you buy?I've been wanting to write this for some time and the reason for writing this now is that my Birthday was just after Christmas which is very close to the New Year and with my Birthday and New Year being so close together it give me a chance to reflect over things that have happened in my life thusfar. I'm not exactly sure what responses I expect to get from this, I guess I'm hoping there will be someone out there in the same boat as me, who will maybe have a better explanation for how I'm feeling. I'm certainly not depressed but I'm somewhat dissatisfied with the way my current life has been set out. Which leads me to my question, Do you ever feel you're somehow on the wrong path in life? I sometimes feel tired of the life I'm living and can't help but think "is this all there is?" In many ways I almost feel like I'm living a dream as thoughI keep expecting to wake up and have a different/better life. However, my current life is not all that bad. I have a well paid job it's not a good job or a job that will build a career but it's a job none the less. I have some money in the bank, I'm healthy and I have a decent level of education so why am I not happy? In many ways I feel that I can learn anything that I put my mind to, and I can do anything thoughI just don't seem to have, ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh I'm not sure. I often keep telling myself that I want to do something amazing with my life but when anyone asks what's this amazing thing you want to do. I reply, "I have no idea" I have goals, for example, save up money get fit and a few other things but yet, I can shake this feeling I'm doing something inherently wrong with my life. It's as though there is something in the back of my mind as I get up in the morning and go to work screaming at me that what I'm doing is wrong and I'm supposed to do something else but yet I have no idea what. Am I crazy? Edited May 20, 2015 by Samcrawford Format has came out wrong
Satu
1. Make a list of everything you've ever strongly wanted to do in your life, going back to childhood. 2. Check off all the ones you've done. 3. Cross out the things that you don't have any interest in anymore. 4. Take action today, towards doing at least one of the things that you didn't check off or cross out.
hotpotato
I can relate! I thnk I'm going through something like a midlife crisis (not midlife yet), and I feel like I have let life pass me by. It's not all bad bc now I have more fire, and I'm ready to make my dreams come true!

Michelle ma Belle
I've been here so I can totally relate. For me, there were a couple of things I did that help shift my focus and get me moving towards a more purpose-driven life; 1. Read. I read (and still read) a LOT of books on the subject. Many of them offer up some really good templates and exercises to help narrow down your dreams/wishes/passions and help you focus better. They are often the perfect kick start to moving in the direction of your dreams. 2. Volunteer. Seriously. It wasn't until I started to volunteer that my whole perspective about life and community and what it means to selflessly give and do for others. In fact, it was through volunteering that I realized how rewarding it can be. It was also a catalyst for leaving my stressful corporate job for one in non-profit. And I've never had a single regret regarding that decision. 3. Mediate. If you're not used to meditating you might roll your eyes at this one BUT there really is something to taking time to quiet your mind. It doesn't have to be formal where you're seated in an uncomfortable position chanting things you can't much less pronounce never mind understand. It's as simple as taking 5-10 minutes where you find a quiet comfortable place, close your eyes, breathe deeply and just let your mind do what it has to. Sometimes it's just a time to see what will pop up and other times you can do this to figure out what needs to be done about something. I've done it for years and it's been instrumental in many of the big changes I've made in my life. Good luck.

central
There are many things I've done and accomplished - and my I have not or decided were not worthwhile. I still have a variety of goals, of course, but my overriding criterion for doing anything is that it increases my happiness. I've also found that my greatest happiness comes from great relationships. Your passions and motivations may be different, of course.
Author Samcrawford
You know you want to. Thank you all who have responded, you have all gave great ideas and insights for me to think about. Interesting video Satu, but what makes you think I could be a pilot?
Satu
Thank you all who have responded, you have all gave great ideas and insights for me to think about. Interesting video Satu, but what makes you think I could be a pilot? Anybody who is in good health and willing to do the work can become a pilot. It's difficult, but that's why it's so worthwhile. It gives you a totally new perspective on the world. But to be fair, mountaineering or skippering a yacht does that too. Challenges bring out the best in us. Enjoy whatever you choose to do All the best, Satu.
GorillaTheater
Thank you all who have responded, you have all gave great ideas and insights for me to think about. Interesting video Satu, but what makes you think I could be a pilot? What makes you think you couldn't? What are a few things you'd like to accomplish?
Author Samcrawford
What makes you think you couldn't? What are a few things you'd like to accomplish? It's not that I think I couldn't, it's more of trying to figure out what I want to do. I'm not looking to be rich or famous, I'm more interested in being happy with my life. Furthermore, I find myself looking on my friends on Facebook and not being jealous of their life or wealth but their happiness. I want to feel useful and at the same time successful, which is hard where we all are overworked and underpaid. I think it is something I need to continually work on. I need to do something even if its the wrong thing.

You sound like a smart guy, so there's a part of you that already realizes this: FB is a lousy measuring stick of other people's lives. It's akin to propaganda, and rarely reflects their reality with any accuracy. I want to feel useful and at the same time successful, which is hard where we all are overworked and underpaid. I think it is something I need to continually work on. I need to do something even if its the wrong thing. Agreed to a reasonable point; doing something is almost always better than doing nothing, again within obvious reason. I'll ask again, not because I'm giving you a hard time but because I want you to think about it: what do you want to do or accomplish?

Dear Gorilla Theater, I'm very sorry for such a late reply, but I've been working and where I work has very little internet connection. To answer your question, I guess I want to do something spontaneous like move to another country. Or start a business from the ground up or enter one that has just started. I feel that the current job I'm in is killing my imagination and is depleting me of my dreams. But at the same time it's relatively good money and it really is just a stop off until I save up enough money. How much money? I'm not sure. How long is a piece of string? I need to continue forward until I figure out what I want to do. Best Regards, Sam
