How important?

How important is proper sleep, enough food and excersise really after a break-up? Everyone keeps telling me to eat enough, sleep well and excersise, and I do these things. But I wonder how important they really are, as in, how would I be if I didn't do those things? And what would happen if I did those things perfectly well?

Sorry if this is the wrong section.

Edit; I try my BEST to do the things I need to do, but I really get little to no joy out of them, only sleep. But eating is hard, and excersise is too, but I do them properly anyway.

All are important and should be done whether you're with someone or not. After a breakup it's mainly to continue a "routine" and keep your mind occupied.

For me, the importance of doing these things was to keep myself as comfortable and balanced as possible. This is purely so that I could deal with my emotions better without having them influenced by external factors. Also exercising for endorphins as well as a more positive image of yourself helped me cope as well.

The busy aspect didn't impact me as much as I did all of these activities while moping. It didn't really help me escape.

For you, just try not doing them, I know when I got lazy my life took a turn for the worse. Keep a journal of your mental state (this is also good in general so you can see your BU progress) and run an experiment on yourself. Maybe you deal with this stuff differently.

Exercise is proven to be as effective in treating mild depression as anti-depression meds.

Breakup = mild depression

So when you exercise hard every day, you're changing your brain chemistry and making yourself feel better. It's really important. Do some intense cardio like running.

Try taking that on every day and see the difference it makes in your emotional state.

All those things help to lay the foundation of keeping your body healthy during this tough time. It's not going to cure your emotions per say but it keeps your body on track which can help your mind as well.
