fawnlawn
Seriously. Let's first start with healthy eating, or cutting back on calorie intake. That's hard for me because I'm home all day and I think maybe I might be an emotional eater. The only supplement that worked for me is $15 a bottle - which my mom, who doesn't want me working while I'm in school because of anxiety - says is too much, especially because of shipping as no local stores stock it. Then there's the working out. Or even just walking. Something. I have no socks. The TSA took my socks and I have no idea why. They still haven't contacted me with a claim number, either. I have a pair of Nikes, but why would I go around with no socks. I know, socks aren't expensive, just go buy some. Except I need money for school and food and a phone bill and actual clothes. I live in a hot climate, so socks are really only necessary for working out. Even if I buy socks, the clothes I have are not made for working out. I cannot afford to ruin any of my every day clothing from working out in them, and my mom will not be pleased if I do. Which is the main reason I'm frustrated right now. I asked my stepdad for money so I could buy some and he straight up told me no, he has to pay off a fine from getting his licence taken away. Which is a good excuse I guess, but he can't even give me a few dollars to maybe go down to the discount center? Then he wanted to make jokes about how if I didn't want to ruin my clothes to just go naked. I was explaining about how I gained 20 pounds from the prednisone I had to take for my back, and my uncle wanted to chime in about how he's "going to be straight with me" and "I'm not active" and "don't do anything." Well, I literally just said why - I cannot afford to replace any of the clothes I ruin because it's so disgustingly hot. I'm just so annoyed and upset because I have so much stuff to take care of and instead of being helpful, it's like everyone just wants to talk about what I don't do. My friend wanted to be my workout buddy, but the gym membership she has is a $40 startup and a $10 monthly fee - which is really good, but my mom doesn't want to pay for it because she doesn't think I'll use it. Which I would. On top of it being disgustingly hot, there's nowhere to work out other than a gym or in the house. My house is full of stuff that shakes when people walk, if I try to work out in here things will fall. Which I get in trouble for. It just feels like I can't win and nobody wants me to. It's not like I'm "fat" or anything. I'm just over what is considered a healthy weight for my height, but I personally don't feel healthy nor do I like being an XL. Do any of you guys have suggestions? Anyone still in high school/college and dependent on their parents for one reason or another? Struggling with health issues that put a limit on what you can do? I feel so alone in this. Bubberfly
Here's something I see that you DO do... Make excuses. Calorie cutting-- look up "zig zagging" with calories. This has helped me immensely as I had trouble just cutting calories. I was still able to eat foods that made me feel "better" when I was feeling emotional. That just meant the next day, I didn't eat as much. I take no supplements but daily vitamins. Sore back? Anxiety? No socks? On meds? Can't knock things over in the house? Live in a hot climate? Do some fricking yoga! Tai chi! Something low impact. There are plenty of people in FAR worse situations who are able to work on their health, one baby step at a time. TRUST ME, if you WANT to lose the weight and get healthy, you WILL.

TRUST ME, if you WANT to lose the weight and get healthy, you WILL. I appreciate your advice with the "zig zagging" so I'll look that up. Yoga, maybe I could do that in my hallway. But aside from that, here's something I see that you did that I do not like nor did I ask for: Try to make my issues seem as if they are unimportant, in a snarky and unhelpful way. I was taking medication for my back, yes. It's sore constantly from some form of arthritis and a possible break of my tail bone. I'm also on medication because of my anxiety, yes. Because of this there are limitations to what I can and cannot do. I do not have the money to replace what was stolen from me, so I'm frustrated. It does not matter to me who is in a worse situation than I am, because, it's not a competition. I merely wanted support from anyone who may stumble upon this with the same issue. Not more of the same, which I'm only pointing out because most of your comment seems as if it was meant to make me feel worse. Tough love approach? Fine. Just really wasn't what I asked for. Emilia
It's not so much calories intake but the type of calorie. Protein is very good, some fat is good, vegetables, nuts are great (watch the fat content in the latter). Carbs should absolutely depend on your activity levels. No sugar, no processed food. Learn to cook from fresh. The above will solve about 80% of your problems with weight.
loveweary11
Clearly your post was made out of long building, extreme frustration. I definitely have the answer. May I ask personal question before I offer up a solution that will literally solve all your workout problems? Not being negative, I just want to understand one part: If you and the family can't afford socks, how do you have luggage and airline tickets? Definitely know 90% of weight issues are on the eating side. You can eat as many salads and as much fruit as you can take, to the point of almost throwing up you're so full and you will STILL lose weight. So if you must graze, do so on celery, apples, carrots, etc. Edited May 30, 2015 by loveweary11

So if you must graze, do so on celery, apples, carrots, etc. Thank you for the tips, this is definitely helpful and I'll try to do more of this! The frustration is definitely a long-time building as I gained 10 with predisone over a year ago, and so this time I had refused to take what was being given to me. My mother and doctor both said it was a derivative, and would not cause gain, and it did. To answer your question, it's not that I can't afford socks because I'm so extremely poor, it's that I have so much to replace + so many other things I need. Build up. But again, we need money for bills and such, and my stepdad is putting most of his income (disability) towards replacing his license. I saved and did a fundraiser for my $200 ticket out and a family friend payed my $200 ticket back. My birthday was while I was gone so all of my spending money came from a few hundred dollars that was graciously gifted to me from a few others for being away. I'm sure it's obvious by now that I live in California. Everything is expensive and income is terribly low in comparison. Socks just aren't a necessity - especially with so many other things that need to be replaced. It doesn't make much sense I guess. Anyways, I totally got my mom to give me some cash last night and using a fashion sale/exchange app a lady gave me a bunch of work-out and running clothing for like $20. So now it's literally just the socks which is funny. Maybe the TSA will contact me with my # and a solution to all the damage they did.
loveweary11
Seems reasonable. Thank you for answering before I offered my help/suggestion. My offer of help is this: I'll send you sock money or buy you some online or something. Lmk how on PM and I'll do it. Then, you can make a follow up post telling us how you did with your exercise. You better go!

You better go! I was about to come edit my reply to say "Wait, I found one. Literally one sock. I think it's a left. Ha ha." Because I found one stray Nike sock in the bottom of my luggage with all of my shirts :lmao: No problem. I figure it's unlikely that anyone I know will see this - save for my best friend - and that you probably had some genius advice on working out while brushing my teeth or something random haha I actually bought a bunch of salad and vegetables, and I've been using My Fitness Pal which says to have a 1200 intake and I've stuck pretty well to that. I've been also following how much fat/sodium/sugar/etc. and I feel really good. But honestly I'd feel terrible accepting your money, especially when things are so pricey and shipping is high up there too! I've been on an app where a certain amount of sign ups can be credited when my code is used, though, and if you're able to download and sign up, that would be a big help (Oh, and I actually don't have PM capabilities but er, I can make an anonymous email so this thread doesn't show up in google searches if I add it as a reply. This forum concept is perplexing.) Edited June 1, 2015 by fawnlawn email: [email protected]
PogoStick
I don't buy that you cannot exercise inside, or outside for that matter. Push ups and bodyweight squats aren't going to knock anything off the wall. If it's hot during the day then exercise at night. If you don't need socks for daily life then I don't see why you need them to "exercise". Exercise = A few bodyweight movements, plus a half hour walk, 5 days a week and you're done. Hell I even helped a local city park and rec put together an exercise program using kids playground equipment.

Even anyone walking around has the entertainment center items swaying. I don't really need to explain again just because you don't believe me. But if you'd like to pay for any damage caused my my following your suggestion I'll put you in contact with my parents? There's quite a difference between walking through a store in sandals and trying to go running in them. Working out is supposed to be done in closed-toed shoes. Unlike some people, I actually listened in gym and refuse to do something that is going to put my health at risk - especially with how often I've hurt my ankles/feet or wrists/hands not listening or doing things properly. And when I go to work out with my friend I'm not going to get us kicked out of the park because we are "too big to be on the kid equipment" or "need to wear shoes if we're going to get on the rock wall" so... Thank you for answering before I offered my help/suggestion. The running clothes I ordered from credits on an app got here today, & with a with a few more sign ups I can order socks so I'm really excited to get started with my friend I've been keeping track of my calorie intake really well. 1200 because my activity level is "sedentary" and making sure that I only have a certain amount of fat, sodium, sugar, etc. and try to take in a lot of nutrients. Thank you guys so much
