Sometimes friends?

I'm not sure if this has ever been written about before but I was wondering if this is as common in other people's lives as it is in mine...

I have quite a few friends, both guys and girls...I have noticed that when a friend gets a new boyfriend/girlfriend, they have no time for their other friends. I don't just mean they are too occupied with their new relationship, I mean they completely cut off ties with their other friends-including me.

My ex-husband and I are friends and have been for quite a while. Whenever I am in a relationship, he is my "best friend". He is there for me to talk to and is there to give me his opinions, but whenever he is in a relationship, I do not exist. Recently, I pointed this out to him and he picked a fight with me.

My best friend and her husband recently divorced. I figured she'd be needing a friend and ready to go out and enjoy the single life for a little bit. She has not made one attempt to call me. I call her and when I do, we talk for hours and things go well, but when it comes time for her to give in the friendship, I get nothing. She's already got a new boyfriend so she has absolutely no time for me now.

My sister is the same way with me. Her and my brother in law recently divorced. She already had a boyfriend and already moved him in with her. Before he was in her life, we'd go shopping, hang out at the bar one night a month, and just spend time together. Now, I am nothing and he is everything...

I am just wondering how common is this or is it just because I let it happen to me?

It's an everyday occurrence. People want to spend much time with people they're attracted to and want to get to know. And if they're really interested in the new bf/gf, they want to be sure they devote enough time to nurturing the new relationship so that it will grow. This often means that other established friendships end up on the back burner for a while.
