People who have vowels in their name

People who eliminate 99% of the population and then complain that they can't find anyone...

Yes! People with rigid, irrational beliefs and lists of criteria.

Someone involved in illegal businesses.

Abattoir workers/owners.

Sex workers.

Models, singers, actors.

Businessmen who travel a lot. (would date those but never seriously)

Owners of companies who make their money by using the cheap workers in East-Asian regions.

Politicians.

Someone who is involved in the horseracing scene (or any other scene that builds on animal abuse)

Anyone happy with minimum wage./Unemployed without the ambition to change it.

Nearly forgot - no pilots. It's like once you marry them you automatically agree to an open marriage.

Fighters of any kind - boxing, etc.

racing drivers)

Can I ask - why? I both race cars and compete in martial arts (not professionally, both are hobbies) so I'm curious to know why I'd be a red flag :p

As for me, I'm not particularly fussed as I care more about the person then the job they do.

Anything illegal or shady

Casino owner

Surgeon - mainly because of the hours and the stress and the job side effects

Minister - Not so much because of his job but because of the constant scrutiny of the catty bitties

Anything unpredictable. I'd rather be with someone who made 40K a year predictably than someone who might make 100K a year...possibly...but there's no guarantee and it's not regular.

Overall, though, I agree with what Emilia posted. Whatever job he has, he should strive to do his best and not just laze through the minimum.

Eternal Sunshine

Real estate agent

Anything illegal or shady like porn, gambling etc

Unemployed

Someone that shows a history of being unable to hold down the same job for at least a year

Actor

Anybody that's attracted to superficial fame

anyone "self-employed."

I don't get this one at all. Self-employed (successfully) is a lot more secure than being an employee, because there's no assurance when you go to a job in the morning that you'll still be employed at the end of the day.

I am flabbergasted by many of the deal-breaker occupations listed in this thread. It's one thing to say that's not something you'd ever want to do, but to say you'd never accept anyone else... it seems completely self-focused and unrealistic. I could accept most [not all] occupations as long as they're not in the sex-worker or illegal/unethical realm.

Yes. Cops, pilots, military are notorious for rampant cheating. And their buddies will look the other way.

However, I prefer to take people as individuals. That's why I put cops and military under Yellow Flag. My suspicion is up, but I don't discount them out of hand.

Now pilots, I'm sorry, but I work at an airport and I just don't like them. And one OLD date turned out to be a married pilot staying at a nearby hotel trying to get me to help him cheat on his wife (I left after one drink)! It's a personal bias that I admit to whole-heartedly! NO PILOTS.

Oh, I so agree with you on this one. Used to work for an airline and the things I saw shocked me. Pilots are the absolute worst. Not only do a vast majority of them cheat but they can also tend to be very controlling. Tried dating a couple myself and although "single" they would try and control me very quickly. Won´t go into detail but I ended up dumping them because I felt smothered. When I say smothered I mean feeling creeped out because they were very controlling about the time I spent with friends and the choices I tried to make in my own life. I also have girlfriends who have suffered financial and emotional trauma after being in relationships with pilots. I think you need a particular mindset to be in a job like that and it does not mix well with a monogamous and equal partnership. I really think it´s a shame because these experiences both direct and indirect have caused me to create a wall of distance when I meet pilots in general. I move in circles where I will meet pilots all the time and I my guard is up from the get go. I don´t know how some people do it. It takes someone "special" to put up with that kind of life and to be with a pilot long term.

For me, it’s because many believe that persuading and making the sale is the essence of human interaction.

No, not pushy, but yes, somewhat overbearing. For me it's that some believe that human interaction is about persuading and convincing as in "How to Win Friends and Influence People." It's kind of PUA-ish. Charm is highly valued by many in sales, but I see charm as a verb and not a positive trait. I worked in an art gallery briefly and couldn't sell a thing. When someone was on the fence about buying I told them to think it over and come back if they decided they wanted it. Sales thinking doesn't fit me.

You and me both brother. I would bet if half the people here actually dated a sex worker, they might change their minds.

I once dated a woman who had once worked as a call girl. Back then I didn't even know what that was except that it related to prostitution, and it really freaked me out when she told me. But she sure ripped it up in bed!!! Best sex life I ever had with a gf.

They are liars.

And professional manipulators.

But there are at least two kinds of salespeople.

1) The person who can sell anything - the pitchman

2) The person who is an expert on particular products

Some people get off on making any sale. They are the ones who would sell a bad swamp land to their own mother. They are the masters of the hard close. And they don't care what they are selling, or to whom.

But there is also the area of sales that depends on product knowledge. Sales people can play a critical role in providing information so that a customer can make a good choice. Does Vince need to be an expert on a products to sell crap on TV? No. But, for example, the sales person who works with an engineer to provide the best sensor options for a robotic application, can be quite helpful. He or she knows all of the ins and outs of various sensor technologies and can help to select the best ones.
