Would never date guy or girl in this profession.....

And professional manipulators.

But there are at least two kinds of salespeople.

1) The person who can sell anything - the pitchman

2) The person who is an expert on particular products

Some people get off on making any sale. They are the ones who would sell a bad swamp land to their own mother. They are the masters of the hard close. And they don't care what they are selling, or to whom.

But there is also the area of sales that depends on product knowledge. Sales people can play a critical role in providing information so that a customer can make a good choice. Does Vince need to be an expert on a products to sell crap on TV? No. But, for example, the sales person who works with an engineer to provide the best sensor options for a robotic application, can be quite helpful. He or she knows all of the ins and outs of various sensor technologies and can help to select the best ones.

I've been working with them on/off for 10 years. I've learned lots from them on how to negotiate and how to be bold. I've also learned that the good ones get off on manipulation and they lie. Agree that many sell a solution to your problems rather than just s product, nevertheless I'd never marry one.

LOL at toreador. You might want to reconsider, that's a real growth industry. Plus he's brave? Things most women will never hear: "Stay away from Miguel, he was bottom of class at toreador school."

Lord this one never came to my mind

I'd be hesitant to date women in the following:

- Not really a "profession"...but any kind of activist. Even if it's for a cause, group or ideology that I agree with. It's the general activist lifestyle and attitude that I'm not fond of.

- Any profession that requires a lot of travel.

- Any job that requires a high frequency of long hours, crunch time, weekend hours. A small bit of that a few times a year is fine, but beyond that...bleh. I'm a big proponent of a good work-life balance.

- Any profession where some time needs to be spent in the spotlight...fame, TV interviews, etc. I'm the type of person who prefers to be somewhat low-key and low-profile...live a highly successful and prosperous life without every Tom, Dick and Harry finding out about it.

Somewhat unrelated side note: I'd also be wary of anyone who's a SJW (social justice warrior) or is too wound up in political correctness.

I've read this several times on this thread and have run into it when I was in clinical practice.

The thing is, when someone (or their loved one) is having a heart attack on Saturday night at 3AM or on Christmas eve, it's amazing how glad they suddenly are that people in medical centers are working those weekend hours on a regular basis.

Can I ask - why? I both race cars and compete in martial arts (not professionally, both are hobbies) so I'm curious to know why I'd be a red flag :p

As for me, I'm not particularly fussed as I care more about the person then the job they do.

Haha, you wouldn't be! I compete in martial arts too :).

It's just that I get really nervous when someone is risking their lives as a job (I see enough of that kind of stuff at work as a medic :) ).

I also used to date a professional sportsman for a while and I can honestly say there were the most boring months of my life. He was a very sweet guy but he had no time at all in between training sessions and competitions, and I'm not really cut out to patiently wait for a guy to give me a couple of days here and there + you can only lust after such lush fitness for so long without any actual benefits ;).

I guess anyone in the nursing field is out than for you.

I wouldn't date anyone in the military.

I wouldn't date anyone in law enforcement.

Those are my two main ones.

Ok, now I'm seeing the funeral services/undertaker thing a lot?

What's that about? Just grossed out by it?

Yes,

What's the matter with a mortuary technician or funeral services?

Undertakers are usually pretty well-off and they're never out of work. They can be called out at unsocial hours though....:)

why do politicians have such a bad reputation?

I would gladly become one! I am so passionate about certain causes (to do with justice) and want to see them addressed in legislation :)

I thought we were allowed to post choices here freely? Or should we pick apart your choices?

I think the view is that they love attention. There is also A LOT of public scrutiny.

A lot of people think politicians sell out.

There is an old joke claiming that anyone who can get elected President, shouldn't be.

I wouldn't date the following:

- an executive. while there are lots that are decent people, there are also lots that have stepped all over a lot of people on their climb up the ladder, work really long hours or just plain feel entitled and I wouldn't want to take the risk of being with someone like that, as it is not suited to my personality

- a politician, especially one like Steven Harper

- someone who owned a factory style farm, a fur farm, or something where animals were being treated in a cruel way

- a guy who works out in the oil patch

- a guy who leads safari type hunting expeditions

- a gun dealer

The following aren't jobs, but more indicators of a person's personality...

- a member of the ku klux klan, westborrough baptist church, or any other racist or bigoted ( and just plain weird) group

- a born again christian, as their beliefs are just too different than mine and I don't think we'd get along because of that

-someone who puts money over people

-someone who's big dream in life is to spend all day on the couch playing video games and shunning the real world

- someone who is super outgoing and expects everyone else to be too. again, not because they are a bad person, but because we'd just be too different.

Ah nice - I've competed in judo for majority of my life and kickboxing for the past couple of years, looking to branch into MMA soon.

I would be a red flag, I'm the nutter who puts it all on the line (in my defense the thrill is amazing haha!)

On another subject, thinking about it having to deal with them today, I'd probably not want to have a long term relationship with an estate agent.

Tread Carefully

Mine is quite simple.

I won't date a*sholes or b*tches.

Those can be two world class professions...;)

I never had a list that I thought of but obviously for me the legal and ethical side plus beliefs would have been important. But a legal job title alone? No, not really.

Sportsman. Especially a footballer. I really don't enjoy any sport at all and it would drive me crazy having to watch something that bores me senseless frequently. The main problem though is that I just can't imagine connecting with someone whose primary passion was sport, when it's something I actively dislike. Similar to how I wouldn't date a guy who wasn't passionate about music, because we just couldn't click. And I've tried!
