Will smoking pot make a person more outgoing?

Perhaps, but what are you gonna do for the rest of the time you aren't stoned?

They don't call it dope because it makes you smart....My advice is to build your confidence in other ways...

Probably, but weed affects everyone differently. It might make you stare off into space and not say a word, or you could laugh uncontrollably about nothing.

Maybe, maybe not.

I tried it in college and found that it turned me into a jittery, paranoid puddle of mud. =/

Yeah, not for me.

It depends.

If I smoke weed, I generally like to be with close friends or even by myself because it may make me paranoid. However, if I was drinking first then I become outgoing, talkative and relaxed. It's quite a calming experience actually but that may not happen for everyone. I don't smoke weed too often anymore and I did it for the first time in about 8 months last week and it was fun.

If you're looking to smoke weed to help with confidence, then you may want to look at other avenues because it may not affect you how you want it to.

Alcohol is probably a much better social lubricant with more predictable results. Marijuana can heighten inhibitions, and can cause you to become more quiet and withdrawn.

Either way, there are much healthier and more sustainable ways to improve social skills and confidence. No chemical alone will work for you long-term.

How old are you? Depending on your age, you might not want to do stuff like pot.

It depends on the weed. Some make me super chatty. Others put me to sleep.

Correct. Sativa vs Indica.

I learned a LOT about weed from my ex assistant the pothead. Learned all about shatter and dabs too. ha ha ha

As a chronic (lolpun) smoker for quite a few years, I can attest that it will do quite the opposite of make you more social. Its not like alcohol.

Makes me want to be alone.

You just have to try it for once. Personally it's different pwr time how I feel. Sometimes it's high and extravert, other times it's stoned and intravert.

In a lifetime (college) long long ago, it made me:

laugh a lot,

talk a lot,

eat a lot,

get super quiet,

then get super paranoid

and eventually become withdrawn.

Lots of fun...

It's affects everyone slightly differently.

I used to smoke it sometimes when I was in my teens and twenties. If I was with a group of people I felt very comfortable with, it would just be a case of long rambling chats interspersed with tomfoolery, laughing until it hurt - and then, of course, the munchies. It bonds you with people pretty quickly. Far more than alcohol does, I would say.

However, if there was ever somebody I felt remotely uncertain about on the scene, my uneasiness would be amplified. Also, I would often get episodes of intense anxiety. For instance, one time I was smoking with a boyfriend and his friend. This friend of his wasn't somebody I had much of an opinion of beyond "nice enough guy". However, while we were all stoned he suddenly started talking to me in a very intense way...staring deeply into my eyes while my then boyfriend sitting right next to me.

That was deeply uncomfortable. You could say it was a episode of inappropriate sexual chemistry, but it felt more like a panic attack to me. You don't really have control over yourself with dope. One minute it can reduce your inhibitions - but that can change just as fast, and you can start feeling very anxious/paranoid.

I don't agree with TFY that it makes people stupid. When stoned people aren't fooling around like children or sitting there frozen with paranoia, they're often having extremely in depth conversations. I would hear a lot of pretty startling insights from people who normally didn't have much to contribute towards conversation.

With alcohol, people tend to just talk crap, get aggressive or maudlin and often noisy. With dope, the conversations can be mindblowingly interesting. The difference between alcohol and dope is a bit like the difference between slapstick comedy and a stand up comedian who comes out with those insights that make you go "I've always thought that too, but just wasn't really aware of thinking it."

It's not a good thing to do on a regular basis. People who are stoners tend to be more like TFY is talking about. Unmotivated, lazy and a bit dull. But a few stoner sessions when you're a student. Well....I actually wrote some of my highest marked assignments the day after I'd been stoned. "Intriguing, original insights!!" Then again, half of those lecturers probably got stoned a good bit of the time themselves.

Another thing I want to add. Anybody relying on substances to help them be more outgoing is going down a dodgy path. Pot will definitely not assist you there. If anything, it'll encourage you to feel that other people are really not on your wavelength. There are a lot of stoners out there who take a fair bit of pride in other people not being on their wavelength/not really getting them....and those people can be are a royal pain in the arse.

If you want to become more outgoing, travelling is a pretty good way to get there. Especially if you do it alone - you'll force yourself to be sociable, and it won't be long before it's second nature. Don't look to substances to help you get there, though. It' won't work out well for you.

I hear what you are saying, but as a PSA for those that aren't already aware...

Marijuana Use Causes Brain Damage Confirmed

Occasional use of anything probably wont cause life long problems. But no one knows how another person might react to something..."Occasional use" can turn into a lifelong obsession, as it has for a lot of guys I grew up with.....most that can barely get out of bed anymore..

Yeah, that's the problem. Particularly if somebody has an underlying condition or any sort of mental health problem, potentially it could become a self medicating thing.

Like more talkative, not as uptight, etc, etc. I've never smoked before..

Not necessarily. I wouldn't suggest using any drugs in order to change your interaction dynamic with people. If you choose to smoke pot for the first time, I would suggest it is with a close friend(s) first as it will effect everyone differently.

Really, I would suggest not smoking it at all. I won't say that occasional use in a safe and responsible way is a horrible thing but it is a mind altering drug. Personally, I am not anti-pot but I don't smoke. I have seen some people abuse it, like any other drug and others who enjoy and appreciate it's value responsibly.

Being healthy, prudent and yourself are the way to go, IMO.

Barely get out of bed? That's a little dramatic.

Cannabis is different today. Back in the day it wired me out and it wasn't as 'sophisticated', so to say the reason it wired me was due to the 'strain' wouldn't be fact as it all acted like go fast in my system. It also caused me to be really focused where mundane projects were concerned- as for causing a person to be more social... I was very social and remained that way, high or not.

I almost want to disagree with you strongly on the assertion bolded, but Cannabis is different and grown differently now.

Now I would say (bolded) this would be true with other substances like PCP, Heroin and other drugs... but Cannabis, no.

Social setting matters. If you and all of your friends are together smoking, it's great.

If you're the only one smoking, or everyone else are strangers, it gets uncomfortable.

Pot is a social thing, but it doesn't make you social. If that makes any sense.
