Robert Z
Ketoacidosis is what causes a diabetic to become dehydrated, suddenly lose tons of weight, and die. That is why you want ketosis and not ketoacidosis. The only reason people hurt themselves is they wing it and don't follow the program. The number one cause of problems is dehydration, which is really tough to address - you have to drink this stuff called Dihyrogen Monoxide, also known as water. The other huge mistake people make is they go lower than 25 grams a day. Some even shoot for zero. You NEVER go below 20 grams a day or so. Any outline of the program tells you that. So don't blame the diet if people think they can just make things up as they go. You can starve yourself to death too! That's another diet option. Most diet plans don't actually recommend doing that but people do it anyway. Edited June 19, 2015 by Robert Z
Robert Z
Thanks Robert. Is this paper speaking of all carbs, complex or otherwise? If it is, I would strongly disagree. I think we should eliminate all refined sugar from our diets though. You disagree? Seriously? I didn't realize science is a democracy. I eat tons of vegetables. You want some complex carbs but grains and grain products and taters and sugars and pasta and rice... are out! Fruit is very high in sugar so fruit is out... at least for me. I think some people can manage some fruit. Half an orange once sent me into a blood sugar crisis. Edited June 19, 2015 by Robert Z

I generally prefer to consume Hydrogen Hydroxide with Carbon Dioxide dissolved in it, and a dash of lemon juice. A potentially deadly combo.
Robert Z
Missed sticking this in And as it turns out, my high-grain bread was causing blood sugar problems as well as causing indigestion. I was able to completely quit a 40 year Rolaids habit when I went on this diet. I used to eat antacids like candy and have since I was a kid. Author mammasita
Yep! I can actually go up to 60g of carbs and stay in ketosis. I use the sticks to check. If you are truly in nutritional ketosis the sticks aren't a good indication. The sticks tell you what your body was doing 2 hours before hand not to mention they are measuring excess ketones. If you are truly ketogenic, the sticks wouldn't show anything because your body would be using all of your ketones. The only true way to tell is with one of the blood meters. Clarence_Boddicker
Fad diets don't work long term. Good fats are healthy in moderation & humans need a certain amount of good fats. Avocado, hummus, most nuts, olives, etc are good fats. Animal & artificial fats are bad. Complex carbs are healthy in moderation & humans need a certain amount of good carbs. Simple or proceeded carbs are bad & unhealthy. Very hard to go wrong with this diet: 1 gallon of water a day, fresh veggies, fresh greens (not nutrientless iceburg),good carbs, fresh fruits, good fats. Avoid non organic & most processed foods. Burn more or approximately the same amount of calories as you eat.
