Resigning from a role I hate

Recommended Posts

Over the past months I've come to loathe my job. My new manager is hideous, has raised concerns about my performance which were never an issue for her predecessor.

I am on the verge of getting a new role. I want to resign and simple never return to the office. I am thinking of the best way of doing this. Resign, take my 2 weeks accrued leave and simply go sick for the remaining time with stress.......I am not sure how best to handle it. The thought of resigning and not telling any of my colleagues is also very appealing

The place i work is now packed with people I cannot stand, and my new manager has build allies amongst them. Weeks ago I fell out with the only person in the office i genuinely liked http://www.loveshack.org/forums/platonic/business-professional-relationships/532634-can-t-make-colleague-change-her-mind-about-me- who I will also move on from.

I'd like to simply go and not tell anyone.....any advice...

Sorry to hear what you are going through. I went to similar situation when my supervisor changed. I was doing fine for 8 years and suddenly, my new supervisor burned me out. I had nothing left. All my confidence and self-esteem went down since I could not do anything good in his eyes. I was so depressed because I needed a job but by the same time I knew that if I stayed my health and mind will shut off one day due to too much stress.I worked late but nothing was good enough to him. one day I wanted to go home, go to bed and if the alarm go off, hide under the blanket and never go back. I tried to push myself, and it did not work since my job was making me miserable instead of making me happy. I was living to work instead of working to live. I then realized that life is not only about work. I resigned.

To tell you that, depending of how you feel, if there is a way to stay and deal with the manager during work hour, and forget about her/him once you are done. Keep working. If there is more work opportunities in your area, quit and apply for another job. When I gave my resignation I did not even know what I was going to do. But I had enough.

I wish you the best.

If you're completely unhappy in your job, leave.

Whatever they pay you isn't enough to compensate you for the misery.

That was really helpful. I have been thinking about all my alternatives and you are right. To remain is making me unhappy - I don't think I even know how unhappy I am until I leave the office. I also often feel like I don't have the motivation to get out of bed.

I will have to have a real think about it all over the weekend.

I have the opposite issue. I enjoy my job and want to stay, but the fact I am being paid less than some people I know who have no experience bothers me.

I can totally relate. I used to love my job until my boss resigned last year. They never replaced her, but instead gave her responsibilities to the next person on the heirarchy who has ZERO experience in leadership. She is completely unprofessional and doesn't realize her lack of leadership has caused problems between everyone under her. We all basically hate each other now. Things just keep getting worse everyday. I'm absolutely miserable and yearning for some structure, while everyone else just wants to f*** around all day and call the wrong shots.

I want to quit to, but my guilt won't let me. There are outside people that need me and I feel like our department would really be destroyed if I left. I also think that if I stick around till the end of this program, I will be more marketable in the long run.

I suggest finding another job before quitting this one. You may get bad references if you don't.

It's a balance, yes, you will be more marketable if you stay, but the place won't fall apart if you leave - the company always remains - don't be guilty, you have to think of No 1.
