baggiesfan
Hi all, I am not sure if this is the right area for my post, but correct me if I am wrong? I am a male who suffers from IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome), and although it is not serious can be a real problem, I have been on forums and groups but mostly felt out of place because the majority of sufferers were women, although they are great to talk to and have made some pen friends, I often wonder though what is like for a man who suffers my problem, I talk to so many ladies who unforunatley have IBS, but being on the male side I wondered how it affects their lives. I sometimes have constant stomach ache and diahorea, have had so many tests, diets, hypnotism and various other means of support, but the bottom line is I am still suffering daily stomach pains, I also bloat alot and you would mistake me for being pregnant, but it amazingly goes down and I can then get into my tight jeans. Just wanted some feedback off some males with IBS, but also ladies. Rich
tiki
I had IBS some several years back. I had a coloscopy - no fun!!! I really think I cured myself of it by removing myself from the situation that I was in (work SUCKED!). Here's another link too that I posted on, don't know if it helps. http://www.loveshack.org/forums/showthread.php?threadid=60090&highlight=IBS Good luck.
laRubiaBonita
mine is from years of abusinfg laxatives and other bad eating disorder habits i had that reek havoc on your digestive tract! that and hormones. what helps me, is making sure i keep my bowels working....by eating smaller meals that are easy to digest, frequently so as not to stop the digetsive process....but to help keep it going. also staying well hydrated....and having some beers once or twice a week.... simon_uk
H Rich! Yes I am a male IBS sufferer and it is murder!!!!! I have had it for about 7 years, it was brought on by a bout of gastroenteritis whilst in Turkey!!! t does affext my life constantly. I ma fine if I am at home but as soon as I go out anywhere, especially at night it just plays havoc with me. Obviously a lot of that is in my mind if it only happens then but I am that used to it and have suffered so long it is hard to break the pattern, try as I might. My ex was very understanding about it because she also suffered, that is one of the reasons why I am sorry to see ehr go because not many women would put up with it I wouldnt imagine :-(

How about your feet Blue, any chance of piccie? Rich
Author baggiesfan
Hi Simon, nice to meet you, yes I understand fully your situation, I have had it similarly seven years also, and Simon a second bout of Gastroenteritis, you have my sympathy also, yes a girlfriend with this problem who can relate to you would have been a wrench to have split up. I am constantly letting my friends down, they say come out for a drink, the trouble is I cannot plan anything, I have to let people down all the time, as for a woman she lives in Ukraine, so I need her to support me, but also I need to support her. Best wishes Rich

christinaIUP
I dont have IBS, but my bf does. For him, it runs in his family, so there really wasnt anything that actually caused it, but from what he says, it has gotten worse for him in the last few years or so. When we first met, he didnt want to tell me about it becuase he was embarassed. So whenever he would go out, he would leave unexpectedly, or just out of the blue say that he had to leave. So since i didnt know what was going on, i just thought that he was being a big jerk. He did eventually tell me about it and it continues to be a daily problem for him. He tells me that no matter where he goes, the store, someones house, he immeadately has to know where the restrooms are, or if he is on a long trip he brings tp with him in the car in case he ever had to stop on the side of the road. His stomach hurts him constantly, but he says that he has just gotten used to the painand that its always there. Sometimes i get frustrated with him because he doesnt want to go out sometimes, either because his stomachis particuarly bothering him that night, or if its some place that doesnt have easily accessable. It is hard for me to imagine what he is going through, but i try to be undertanding. I just hope that some day it does subside and he can start doing more things with out worrying too much. Author baggiesfan
christinaIUP Hi Christina, I for one can relate to your boyfriend, I also suffer daily stomach pains and toilet woes, he is not alone in this, I have set up a group for IBS with a friend of mine Steph, she is from Australia I am from the U.K. we relate to each other and other people who suffer this real common problem. Christina, I for one am constantly thinking of the woman and how she feels, I am single at moment it is probably best as my stomach plays up quite alot, not helped by just finding out the woman you were going to be with may marry another man (another story!), but things like this only agreviate symptoms, it mainly is diahorea, bloating, stomach cramps, and various other side symptoms, the first few being the most commonest. It is hard for me when you have friends who want to share so much, but you cry off because you feel unwell. Christina, if your guy is like me then you should have a little sympathy, this rules my life (IBS), I have tried diets, hypnotism, stress counselling, tests, you name it! It cost me my job even so that is how serious it gets. By all means your guy is welcome to message me and find out more information I will be glad to help. And for you, just try to be a little bit more sympathetic, this will go a long way in reducing his stress, believe me Rich
westernxer
I changed my diet and it worked wonders... still, I have to be careful or else I'll get taken to the cleaners. Literally. I blame it on South America.
simon_uk
Calling me cynical but I think it is a product of our generation, much the same as PMS (But thas another story). PMS, IBS, M.E, I think they are all in the mind half of the time and I am exactly the same as BaggiesFan. My life is dictated by my stomach and I am sure it is mainly psychological but it has gone on for that long that I cannot break it. It is funny how these complaints were not as prevalent during our parents earlier years. Westernexer by be on to something when he mentions diet but in all honesty I have tried various diets and nothing has helped! :-(
