Can companies trace a negative review about the job, company on indeed/glassdoor?

I want to write a review about the company I work for, about what really goes on, nothing nasty, but every review that I've seen is positive, surely that isn't always the case!

I would be careful not to reveal too much about specific things that you have experienced or about the position you have. You'd be surprised at how easy it is to identify people just by the specific types of information they reveal about themselves.

I recently left a position as an assistant director within the local branch of a rather large company. The company itself has a bad reputation among its workforce, and for reasons that I can understand and sympathize with. Still, I would read Glassdoor fairly regularly, if for no other reason than to see if people were saying unfair things about me or other management.

Although they were 'anonymous' responses, two individuals were clearly identifiable because I knew of specific things they were referring to in the post. I personally wasn't offended by anything they wrote, but who knows how people might react. It's not just local people who read the reviews; higher level executive management will read reviews as well, often with great interest in trying to figure out who's behind them.

If you can keep yourself anonymous, then have at it. Just be sure you know the risks.

I'm glad you made this post. I was recently wondering the same thing! I really want to review some recent jobs and have been a little afraid to. Especially with the smaller organizations. I agree with what Fugu said though. My husband was reading a bad review on glassdoor, which he was almost adamant that it was one of his old coworkers writing the review...based on the job title and dates of employment...which he only knew one person who worked at that location that held that particular position...so it was fairly obvious. If you do review, I would avoid putting any employment dates or job titles as that can easily be weeded out and identified. Don't get too descriptive either about things that may have personally happened to you. The only jobs I am really frank about on glassdoor are ones that I do not expect any good references from and will not be using as a reference. Other ones, even though my experience working there may have been less than satisfactory, I still prefer to remain on good terms for reference purposes.

I never bothered to waste my time at all with a job I didn't like and focused my energy on the future.

Well, that's easier said than done. Most of use have to stay at our current jobs to pay bills and have a roof under our head until we can get a job we like-which isn't always easy. Some of us don't have the luxury of living with parents or have a partner we can lean on for financial support.
