moonlightpath
For as long as I can remember I have always experienced anxiety while studying. I lose focus so easily sometimes. It really affected my grades last semester. I know I have the potential to do well. I know I can get at least straight Bs and most likely a few As here and there. When I first started college I would always get As and Bs. But now I am a junior and I find myself with more challenging classes of course, but I am always getting Cs or even lower grades. I recall last fall semester I was taking a more challenging class. Somehow I managed to really regulate my anxiety while studying. I did really well in that class. But sometimes its just so hard to focus and control my anxiety. I feel as if medication would really be helpful because I'm so tired of not getting the best grades. One of my psychology professors noticed my grades. She asked me about them. I explained to her how I get really nervous when I am studying and how sometimes I even end up putting myself down by telling myself, "Why even bother studying? You know you're not going to do well anyways. You can barely focus for more than 10 minutes." My professor told me i should try to study in comfortable environments or with other people. But I never found that helpful. My sister is a doctor and she knows I have always had anxiety but I think she assumes I have it under control now because I never mention getting bad grades. I just feel embarrassed asking her if she can refer me to someone for my anxiety. I know she will be understanding but I just fear that maybe she will just think I am being lazy and not trying my best.
d0nnivain
She's a doctor. She will treat your request for a referral professionally & not think you are being lazy. She knows anxiety is a real thing that needs to be be treated by professionals.
Morro72
You may also have depression or any of a number of other conditions (the "she will just think I am being lazy" comment makes me think that might be the case, for example). Most of these sorts of things are treatable but first you need to see a professional for a diagnosis. d0nnivain is 100% correct that your sister will be able to point you in the right direction. The college student health service should also have people who can help. Start with whichever one is most comfortable for you but be sure to do it soon.
acrosstheuniverse
I'm confused as to why you think you have to go through your sister? Aren't you registered at a surgery with other doctors? It'd be pretty weird and unprofessional to have your sister as your main doctor so I'm sure I'm not reading this wrongly. Just go and see your own doctor and explain what you said here. It's nothing to do with your sister.
