Delusional guys who think girls have a crush on them?

Recommended Posts

so I am currently into the show "Big Brother" and this one guy, Austin, is into a girl on the show, Liz. She is definitely flirty with him but behind his back she revealed that she's sort of playing him to be strategic. She just wants to stay on his good side even though she doesn't like him THAT much she doesn't protest too much. well he also is very VERY presumptuous about her and even the other girls in the house. he has already convinced himself that this one other girl has a crush on him and her reactions to him are based on her being jealous that she can't have him and he also interpreted another girl's actions as meaning that she liked him too. He comes off so arrogant and delusional (from an outside perspective, knowing the truth), but he has really convinced himself of this, that he views these girls in a certain way because they like him. And he tells the other people this as well. He explains to them why so and so is acting a certain way towards him, it's because she is mad at him for not paying attention to her.

anyways, well, the reason I am posting this here is because this reminded me of some situations I have gotten into in my life. I have met guys who have done what this guy is doing: I know I have no control over other people, but whenever i realize a guy thinks I have a crush on him and he has told himself and OTHERS that oh, the reason Sally is not talking to me is because she is mad i rejected her. It just really REALLY pisses me off, particularly when it isn't even true!! Even if the person had rejected you in the past, it doesn't mean that every instance you're not talking to the person means you are still thinking about being rejected. It's like you're not allowed to be mad at the person for some other reason, or that you are no longer even interested in the person in that way (if you ever were) - that doesn't cross their mind.

so how do you react to someone like that? I know you can't change them or control them. But what is the BEST approach? because i always feel like patronized by people like this or they humiliate me in some way, even if inadvertantly, by telling other people their presumptions. Especially if the idiots they hang out with don't realize the guy is completely delusional and full of himself. I mean what am i supposed to do, just never show any interest in someone? Perhaps the problem arises when you initially show you're interested before realizing it's someone like this? I guess what bothers me is that I feel like they have this POWER over you or they feel superior to you thinking you have feelings for them. but how do you put them in their place? or should you at all? maybe i am totally wrong for feeling this way. maybe it's not patronizing or condescending at all

There are definitely times i have considered maybe a guy likes me, but i always feel like a jerk when i mention it to someone else, and i tell them, maybe i'm being presumptuous. but i just don't get how these people can do it without feeling ridiculous!

Come on, really? Nobody has experienced guys like this? I seem to find them all the time, and then when I hear they boasted to other people that I liked them, it makes me really really angry.

In some instances, yeah maybe i was interested, but I am talking about the ones who take that to mean you are head over heels and even interpret the things you do as some reflection of how you feel about them. When in reality, you are merely interested, and there's no shame in that. Not interested after that though...

There was a recent study sometimes last year that I believe was published on this website where they found that the more attractive the man found the woman, the more likely he was to think she liked him back. Which, of course, couldn't be further from the truth. Talk about delusional.

I only had it happen to me in elementary school. I did like the guy's company but due to my age I wasn't interested in anything romantic, it never even crossed my mind before I turned 13. Just ignore the boasting, they only have power over you if you let them, and people will believe what they want to believe anyway.
