Meeting up at a bar with 19 yo and 21 yo friends for a drink at 9:00.

It's like Groundhog's Day...

See what other older women think tonight.

Ah, here's something different!

Good! Hope something comes of it.

Don't wear those Supras, RUN DMC!

:lmao: Those were pretty funny.

Not hooking up with the 19 or 21 yo girls. Just a friendly drink.

Could scare away the Run DMC crowd though... will they be intimidated I'm with the 2 hottest girls in the bar? :)

I can't believe nobody hit on the fact that Justin Bieber lives in high tops like these. :lmao:

Yup. True.

Very New England.

That stuff gets you shunned in Manhattan.

Different costumes for different places.

I do believe we will never arrive at anything more sensible than the thoughts already given (and received) regarding styles.

I wear different costumes depending where I am. Very few can understand this other than fellow travelers (and Phoe).

Nah, we all dress for the situation. But you can still bring your own style and personality into casual, professional, or formal attire. You don't have to morph into a stereotype of each place you are in.

Oh, I did. I just felt pointing it out was pointless at this point, since you're both going after the same girls.

I just skimmed through this thread and I probably need to read more closely. Forgive me if I missed any details about there being a specific girl that just appeared in the picture, recent developments, ect.

There already is something about this thread that really concerns me. The debacle with Yoga Girl says to me that the one thing that is in *critical*, *dire*, *emergency*, need of an upgrade is how you screen. I mean, aren't you astounded in how little you knew about her after all this time together? Sometimes people change and sometimes people keep secrets, but some very big stuff about Yoga Chick, i.e., that she was only a taker, you could have found out long before you did.

And yet, the one thing you seem to be focusing on--probably the LEAST possible important thing you could even come up with--is your image. Seriously?!? I mean, going from your avatar, you're a good-looking guy (no homo), and you know women like men who are comfortable in their skin. If you are, they you can make a lot of things style-wise look great. If you aren't, the best "look" won't save you.

Anyway this is my 30000-foot impression of things so far.

Hey pops (it's ok if I call you that right?) I believe you when you say those shoes are in in NYC. They are in in LA, too. But it's about who they are in with, pops. The who being 20 year-old kids.

C'mon pops!

The REAL hippy chicks are walking around barefoot anyway. Nuts but true.

I think Phoe nailed this though.

I'm struggling to find a hippie in a concrete jungle.

Probably not going to happen.

I think I need to get back to looking for ltrs once I return to Florida this winter and more northern climates next summer.

Why must you say this??? I could go to Manhattan today and meet a bazillion granola girls who match your needs perfectly. Why is it I can do it and you can't? Your protests just don't make sense since I KNOW what is out there. Can you explain for real? If you just aren't attracted to women over 30 you might want to come to terms with that rather then spin your head about what you think you should want.

I'm attracted to women of literally any age, if they are attractive.

Hell, there was this really tan, super hot GREY HAIRED lady in Florida I kept seeing that I felt sparks for. :D It's just a matter of fitness/skin tone/color of hair/eyes.

So I just fired up tinder this morning to try that. Will go downtown later this weekend.

Had a few too many drinks with the friends last night.

Forgot to talk to or look at anyone. Just hung out with the friends and kind of flirted with another train wreck, but went back home alone.

Definitely taking the advice in this thread to heart.

Looking around for more real stuff as opposed to play time.

LW is hanging out on the wrong side of the country. I suppose you'd find a lot more "hippy" chicks here. We talkin girls that eat vegan and bake vegan cupcakes when we say "hippy"?

I know what you mean. I hit it off so well with CA girls normally. Have dated several.

Trouble is, it's a pretty long trip through the Panama canal to get out that way.

It's definitely on my mind though.

Planning to leave the east coast asap. Totally bored/stagnant here.

My plan was to go live in Europe a while, then check your area out. Just too difficult to go to CA then Europe.

Maybe I should have kept my RV. Hippie is more Phoe style, really. Down to Earth. Minimalist. But with interests in quality foods, growing your own food possibly, travel, maybe homesteading and off grid stuff.

Alternative lifestyles.

I think Europe might be a good choice for you, so long as potential language barriers don't get in your way.

I never would've described my ideal lifestyle as hippie-ish, but gravitated towards say... hunter-gatherer. Go back hundreds, even thousands of years in time, and live that way.

As a little girl my family grew all our own produce out in the yard. My dad and I would fish alot to gather up fish to eat, and freeze the rest for later. My mom hated fish though, haha. We never hunted though, only fishing.

Perhaps survivalist would be a good term as well, but I always gravitated towards describing it as hunter-gatherer. Haha, the other day a coworker who only works at our location a few times a month came in, and offhandedly mentioned some rock art he'd seen over the weekend out in the desert. I immediately perked up and we started blathering on about petroglyphs and hieroglyphs and early man and my friends turned to him and started laughing, saying "You realize you couldn't have picked a more perfect topic to mention to her, right?"

Plop me down in the middle of nowhere and I will build shelter, find water, gather food, and build a fire, and be happy as a clam.

Hunter gatherers were pre agriculture.

Agriculture/domesticating plants was about 12k years ago. If you're growing plants you are talking about agricultural communities, not hunter gatherers.

All the best, most well-rounded down-to-earth women are in the SF Bay Area. ;)

Problem is, the guys here don't match.

LW, why don't you look into urban homestead organization? I know this is a thing even in NYC. These types aren't hitting up the clubs, though.

But if that's what you're into (living off the grid, homestead, etc), it doesn't gel all that well with picking up and traveling on a whim. Who's going to care for the chickens and rabbits?

How cool would it be to live off the gird? Grow your own food and live off the land without the hassle of having to deal with crusty bosses and ridiculously bad customer service. Seriously. I met an home builder who specialized in green homes. They were small but the space was wisely used and the material was fuel efficient. If you have the start up fees you can get a home built to live off the grid. Or just get a camper and never stop traveling. There's never a shortage of places to see, things to do and people to meet.

I already have them.

I had built an off grid, class b rv, fully self contained and could be plopped in the middle of nowhere for weeks at a time.

I just sold it a few months ago to move onto the new boat I built, which is also off grid and even more self sufficient than the rv was.

I don't have bosses. I am the boss/owner.

The boat is a state of the art, high speed sailing machine. Made from the same material and in the same way Boeing makes the new planes (vacuum resin infused composites). Put in house terms, it's 4 bedroom, 3 bathroom, seats 12 for dining, sleeps 10 and capable of world travel.

That's my direction.

Just need to find the right soul to experience the planet with.

I've been living off grid since 2005 or so and did so with my ex wife.

Loveweary,

How do you reconcile the ethos of many hippie communities (of individuality, dislike of labels--both fashion and personal--so on) with your conformist and materialistic proclivities?

As someone born and raised at ground zero of the hippie movement, I don't believe I've ever run into a hippie living his authentic life who was also sweating getting bottle service at the clubs.

If you plan to date a "hippie chick", she will likely find this equally confusing.

I don't.

I am not in any way interested in hippie communities, wookies or other groups of people that form collectives.

I am interested in living it, not just talking about it. Not dealing with collectives. Relying on myself.

Phoes last post detailing her preferences for hunter gatherer are more accurate than the word "hippie"

It's a tough thing to explain. If I said minimalist hunter gatherer, nobody would know what I was talking about.

I have zero materialistic proclivities. I own literally nothing. I an in NYC wih a carry on suitcase and backpack.

These days, I suppose the word "hippie" has been badly bastardized.

I'm using it to mean what I discussed a few posts up. More down to Earth types.

Enjoying the urban life is part of being a minimalist traveler type.

You don't shun any one thing. You drink up the places you live in and live as a local until it's time to move on to the next destination.

I am HEAVILY nonconformist and am merely discussing what costume to wear, not in love with brands or whatever. Clothing is for the people around you, hence has a huge effect on who you attract.

I agree. However, it's simply part of traveling.

If I had to choose, I'd go her way and stop in less urban areas.

The other person and lifestyle is more important to me than the exact destination.

Indeed, I know that. And when I talk about gathering, I literally mean gathering. Finding things that are growing wild.

Doesn't mean I can't discuss agriculture and growing plants as well, lol.
