smurfln
My fiancee and I have gone over and over wedding plans and are now considering a destination wedding as a fun and less stressful alternative to a traditional hometown wedding. Has anyone had or been to a destination wedding and what did they think of it? Would you reccommend it? We are also trying to decide if it would be better to go to Hawaii or the Carribean possibly the bahamas or jamaica so I'd appreciate any feedback on any great destinations thanks! New_Wife
Ours was less exotic (Las Vegas) but fun! I enjoyed the lack of frill, fuss & bridezilla stress & the honeymoon was built right in. Plus, it lowers the odds of seing THOSE relatives that would be obligated to make an appearance at home, but aren't willing (and you don't want them) to shell out the cash to travel to watch you get hitched. RecordProducer
Take into consideration the documents needed in different countries. You can find it on the net. Hawaii would probably be more convenient because it is the US. If they ask for a birth certificate you can obtain it by ordering via internet.
smurfln
Thanks for the advice. We also thought of the additional requirements that would go with traveling out of the country so we have narrowed it down to Hawaii or St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands. I'm taking votes on which people believe would be a nicer trip.
laRubiaBonita
well i went to a wedding in jamaica this march. i had a blast in jamaica, and feel bad for saying so, but the wedding sucked! it was at the sandals resort. it was pretty and all, but the whole thing was just soo poorly planned by the resort. it started at 11 a.m., we were at an outside courtyard with a gazebo over looking the water (but i was in the back row, so i saw nothing). We were sittinh in the blazing sun for at least 30 min. just waiting. evevryone in the audience got sun burned , just from sitting there! And since I was in the back row, there was no breeze..i was hung over and I seriously thought I was gonna pass out! Anyways, the actual ceremony was 10 min. max. Then we sat there another 30 minutes while the wedding party signed documents, took some photos, basically we milled around, think they were setting up for the reception. WRONG! The wedding coor. Directed us all to follow her….all 30 of us, we think we are going to the reception. But, we just stop in the middle of a grassy area in the middle of the resort. They want to the wedding picture in this exact spot. The grass all gets watered, so it was muddy, women’s shoes were sinking into the mud, the gueta re still just milling around. I had to get water and sit inside so I left to find anything. 40 minutes later, I they are done with pictures, and finally we get to go the reception. Unfortunately, that sucked as well. It was a sit down 6 course lunch that took at least 2 hours to get through. They had all the guests pretty much separated into small tables and it was terrible difficult to talk to anyone other than the 6 people around you, plus you could barely move in the room we were in. After lunch, and many many drinks later there was maybe 30 min left to dance and doo what ever. It was just very poorly planned I thought, with all the guests that paid thousands of dollars to be there, I thought my time could have been better utilized. I love the couple, and I do think they had a good time…..but they did not even call us to make sure we had arrived ok, to let us know when some things might be…..hell to klet us know that the wedding was still on! tiki
My husband and I went on an inter-island Hawaiian cruise in December and got married our first day there, on the island of Kauai. I planned it all, searched online for weddings and got all of the information needed. We made an appointment with the State of Hawaii Chamber of Commerce and got our marriage certificate. That was about $60.00. Our marriage ceremony was pretty cheap. We paid like $450 all together. The officiator's husband was there, he took pictures with our digital camera. Our honeymoon was immediate, of course. Low/no stress, no family, no flowers, no reception or cake, no nothing. I'd do it a million times over. Totally worth it and do~able!!
