I think it's just as tough for me as it is for him....seeing the one I love harming himself in this way. Today is day 2 since he has had a "dip". Yesterday, he was kinda grumpy, kept eating, and when we went to bed, he just randomly got up and ate some peanut butter lol he said it helps w/ the craving. i dont know lol. But when we were in bed, he kept cuddling w/ me and tellin me thanks for being there....i think he almost started crying even. This is just really tough b/c I have it in my head that he's done...so if he slips, I wouldn't be all that happy. I wanna be more understanding, but I've never been addicted to nicotine. He asked me what he could do in place of chewing, I didnt know what to tell him. I dont know what my question is here exactly. :( I guess what can he do in place of chewing tobacco? and what can i do to be more understanding and not get upset if I do see him slip or whatever? ugh i'm about to cry, I dont know what to do b/c I dont wanna fight w/ him about this...

I chewed for 12 years and quit cold turkey. It's as hard to quit as smoking.

Me too. Quit cold turkey in Dallas on Nov, 1999. Haven't chewed since.

ConfusedInOC, what did you do to replace the chewing tobacco or fight the urges, whatever you wanna call it?

Chewing straws.

Chewing toothpicks.

Chewing gum.

Basically, just chewing anything that was caloric free and sugar free that didn't hurt my teeth.

I was hard. I especially wanted a chew after every meal.

yea thats usually when my b/f would chew....after meals. Our roommate asked me today if i've noticed that he's been eating alot lately....i said yea and told him why. He said he almost went and got some yesterday and talked himself out of it...and i came home from work and he was napping and never naps really during the day...so im thinkin the reason he was is so that he wouldn't think about his cravings he was having
