Dying your Hair for Men or Women

Why does dying your hair cost $60 and up at all hair salons? Why aren't there any places that do it for $50 or $30-40?

I don't know where you are, but where I am, you can go to the hairdressing school and get it done super cheap or free...provided you're happy to let a learner loose on your locks.

My son is at hairdressing school and did mine for free a few weeks back, he did a fantstic job and his tutor was watching every move.

Capitalism, demand vs supply, inflation, overhead/booth rent, regulatory costs, supplies, taxes, etc etc

The hairdresser has to cover their costs & make a profit.

i stay home with colorsilk @ 2.50 a box.. looks just as good as everyone else. half the time the girls at work will tell me they spent 60, 70, or 80 and their color looks identical to the day before it was colored. home kits use the same stuff as salons... why do you even need to go there for color? unless you're doing highlights, weird colors, etc.

You can do that for less than $40.00. Also when you go to the hair salon, observe what they do and do it yourself. I went to the salon at the beginning and always the result was not good. Now I spend $5 and color my hair and I like it.

I used to go shopping at the chemical wholesaler with my exW, since color was her specialty. Whoa, that stuff was expensive, at least the stuff she used. Especially expensive were the chemicals which 'lift' colors and do other restorative work when someone's coloring went horribly wrong. Sometimes those clients would be in the chair for a better part of a day, including processing. Time is money. She made most of it doing 'weaving', which is interlacing tones of color, and restorative work. Quite a business.

Haha me too!

I've been dying my own hair for years. After a few bad go's, you get the knack for it. People are always shocked (hairdressers included when I go in for a trim) that I dye my hair, they think it's my natural.

No point in spending that much money on something that needs to be touched up in 6ish weeks anyway.
