A Bit Clueless

Recommended Posts

Hey!

I've never been terribly interested in relationships. However, as of late I've found myself increasingly wishing I could find one... but there's just one problem:

I'm clueless about relationships.

But, of course, I wouldn't be here if I knew what I was doing, would I? That said, allow me to go over a bit about me and what I'm looking for:

- The name's Zach, and I'm currently a high-school senior looking to pursue a career in IT. I'm a HUGE computer nerd and really dig PC gaming.

- I'd really like to find someone like-minded and within my age group (I am 17) to maybe spend some time with... be it via the Internet, or in person.

- I would not be opposed to a long-distance relationship.

A few questions:

- Are there any online tools that might be able to help me out?

- I'm REALLY shy around people I don't know... would there be any way I could work around this and maybe get someone's attention in the "real world"?

Like I said previously, relationships in general are uncharted territory for me. I've always thought it would be awesome if I had a significant other with a similar array of interests... any ideas as to how I could make it happen?

I don't know much about gaming but if you looked up forums for gamers you might find some like minded people there, maybe even a few girls. I'm not sure where young people find each other these days, possibly liking the same things on Facebook? Just be careful who you trust without live chatting you don't want a catfish situation.

In regards to real world experience, have you thought about getting a part time job at a local store where other people your age work? It would be great experience both professionally and personally by giving you the chance to talk to girls without the pressure of dating. You might meet someone you really hit it off with. If that doesn't interest you then perhaps you could join a club at school and meet girls that way.

Good luck!

Hey Zach.....

Can I be blunt? I was into gaming (still am) and was a nerd and enjoyed learning in HS and College and didn't date that much - if at all. While I wouldn't change most of what I did or the choices I made, because the results included good things along with the bad, I'd change the way I felt about myself during those years and my early adulthood.

Most people just breeze through life assuming the world stays the same, and unconscious about how things really work, the values and assumptions that lie within, and how their view of the world is pretty limited.

you're 17. I'm 34. If I can give you once piece of advice that I wish someone in my life would have said to me at that age it's that - everyone is the same - we all have fears, we all want things, including love and affection, but how those things manifest themselves, when and where, are different. It's your life. It's your choices, and even with a partner in bed you're by yourself when you close your eyes at night. And only you are responsible for your happiness and success.

Not sure you're old enough for Meetup.com - so try FB, try joining a club at school, yes work part-time so you learn how to do things....Just get out and enjoy and look at things as experiences.
