applej4
I did not personally report it, but I planted the seed. Good move.
Lois_Griffin
Gotta love the 'don't tell'" philosophy everyone seems to be promoting. Sounds as though your company obviously doesn't do background checks, but maybe just verifies citizenship/identity/work authorization, etc. Much as companies aren't allowed to discriminate against potential employees based on their past criminal activity, I'd be lying if I said my HR Dept. never did it. Our older application forms asked if an applicant had ever been arrested for a crime and the nature of it, and one guy had indicated that he had, and it was some kind of child sexual offense crime (can't remember the exact details). You can believe that application form never saw the light of day again whenever we'd pull apps when seeking employees for positions. It is what it IS, like it or not. There are MANY ways to inform HR of concerns one has with regard to the safety and overall security of their workplace. We have a 1-800 hotline that people can call and leave anonymous messages for HR to follow up with. We have a 'suggestions box' with a slot in it hanging in front of the cafeteria for employees to tuck anonymous notes in. Anonymous emails sent to HR from an anonymous web-based email account you create, a printed copy of the guy's court/arrest activity slid under the door of HR. The list is endless and it CAN be done, regardless of the doom and gloom predictions from the naysayers. You can get that info to HR and if nothing else, they'll maybe decide to keep a real close eye on him. Yeah, the sky really WON'T fall if you tell.
