Dating a believer who doesn't practice what they preach?

I have asked many times Biblically how is marriage defined. What is the line between shacking and fornicating. Is it a couple announcing that they are a family. Is it the civil government having a signed contract. Is it a member of church government saying he okays it and witnesses the pledge. Is it a father trading his daughter to a cousin for the family business?

It could be. When Jesus and Paul spoke of marriage, certainly in the case of the former and most likely in the case of the latter, they weren't talking about a marriage officiated by a believer. I'm not sure what marriage looked like at the time, but at least in the earliest days we're not talking about a marriage performed by an official in the Christian church.

I think regardless of how it is defined, once action has been taken that defines two people as married in the eyes of common sense and logic (whether it be a church, a justice of the peace, a ship captain, etc), then to go back and say, "Oops, God didn't want us married after all so I can move on to someone else" is just blatantly and obviously not Biblical and not rational.

 

This is what happens when churches are more concerned with emotion, "deliverance," speaking in tongues, and big hair than they are with solid, in context Biblical doctrine.

People's actions don't always track with their espoused beliefs. To that extent, we're all hypocrites to some extent or another. I expect it and don't get too worked up about it, at least to a point.

 

What would bother me is her attempts to police my soul. That's not her job. She takes care of her soul and I take care of mine, period.

I am not sure that sex toys in and of themselves are sinful. But someone who claims to believe in a strict adherence to the Bible shouldn't be using them with people they aren't married to......

I think she was freaked out by the death of some family members,her own mortality (50+yo), and the ghosts of her past. Still a very beautiful woman, Linda Ronstadts doppelganger when young, and aged well. I was surprised when she started in with the religion. Not a problem until she started trying to convert me.
