Tayla
I was thinking of the institution rather than the individual in the position, Tayla. He may sound somewhat more modern in his thinking, but it doesn't sound as though the substance of what he's preaching is so very different. The Church seems to continue to be opposed to artificial contraception....which, to my mind, is an untenable position. How many Catholics really abide by that rule? Thank you for clarifying. good question which statistically I have no answer. Ultimately since the question posed on this thread is, is the pope necessary? my answer is yes. BrokenManAgain
Ultimately since the question posed on this thread is, is the pope necessary? my answer is yes.No! I can name you Popes who did crap all. Is the Man necessary! More than one. Pope John Paull II being the last Pope in 300 years who actually lived up to the title of Man Of God. The Popes of WWI and WWII, I can do without.
Author BC1980
Ultimately since the question posed on this thread is, is the pope necessary? my answer is yes. I think most Protestants and all other non-Catholics would say the Pope isn't necessary to them personally. I think that Catholics feel the Pope is necessary, but I wonder exactly WHY he is necessary? From my standpoint, he seems he is a figurehead. I'm sure he does a lot of things of which I am unaware, but I wonder if he, specifically, is necessary for these duties? It's an ironic thing isn't it? The fact that organized religion does need someone in power, someone with oversight, but Jesus railed against power. He railed against institutions (the Roman government, the Pharisees). I think that the existence of the papacy is absolutely in contrast with the Gospels, but I also feel that someone in power is necessary.
