What do you do when your accused of something at work ya didn't do?

At the time I posted this, I was upset, so it probably did come off as over dramatic. And no, maybe I didn't choose the best title for my thread.

I have not asked my co-workers if they were given verbal warnings, which this is clearly a verbal warning, about if they were asked about texting too much.

Yes, I am ticked off about this. This is the second time I have been questioned why I have so many text. The first time was several months ago. I could see why they asked at the time because we had limited texting and I had went over once or twice. Several months later management gets us new cell's and she tells me they have unlimited texting so it's not as much of an issue anymore. Then I get a verbal warning about having too many? Like I said I can't control when my clients text me. And when they do, I am not going to ignore it.

I'm not texting anymore unless I can't reach my clients. If they need me, they will have to call my office phone. If they can't reach me, they will need to leave a VM. If it's that important, they will leave a message and I will get back to them ASAP.

Maybe when your clients text, dealing with issues might be better by using email. Doing that will cut your texting in half.

They are concerned that I'm crossing boundaries with my clients and texting like we are friends or about things that are not job related.
Obviously employer feels there are too many chatty, friendly, personal texts which are unnecessary and not work related (thus the comment about crossing boundaries).

Seems like a generational thing, where your management doesn't understand that younger people deal much more in texts these days and don't get that you can conduct a lot of conversations via that medium.

Still despite everyone hear saying it's not a big deal, it seems odd to me that they would go to the extent of watching how much everyone is texting and bringing it up to you multiple times. It sounds suspicious to me like someone has made an accusation.

Our Business follows standard protocal when corresponding with clients. Via Email, or formal letter. Copies are made and kept on file. Any conversations are notated on their Business file. This saves on Clients playing the old He said Blah blah so I deserve this blah blah discount.

Text can be tampered with ...as can emails...the difference is our email server is rather tight and all records are kept, back ups are made, so any tampering could be pin pointed.

Lay off the texting....Its unprofessional and unless your Company policy states otherwise, assume you work for your boss and adhere to the professional line of courtesy.

I recall one day being checked out from a medical office, scheduling for further tests and a follow up, but the gal with the bubble popping gum and cell in her hand just had to finish her text arguement with her bf. It took ten minutes of reminding her that I am trying to settle my bill....She said, sure, give me a few minutes, gotta finish telling rob what a jerk he is....yeah,,,,texting has its place.

If they didn't write anything in your review to the negative about it I'm betting it was just a clarification. You can always followup with you boss in a few weeks and just see if he/she recommends anything else to fix the 'texting' problem.

One other possibility is it could be a political move by someone with an ear to your management to put you in your place. That sort of thing is pretty common in certain industries.

Maybe they did look at your text message history on your phone and made the determination off of informed info rather than none, your assumption is that management would make a blind reprimand without covering their butt is misguided.

Maybe you are just not direct enough in your texts and give out too much info, it might be your also respond to a text that doesn't need a response.

I wouldn't question management about this, I would adjust and make sure you are following their new objective.

A flip side of this is that many times a company will begin a process of finding the smallest thing to make it larger in order to fire the person so they don't have to pay unemployment in the event of a firing.

Why not transcribe the texts and copy them on it. Ask which ones you shouldn't have sent. Ask them if they think your work is slipping because you are spending too much time texting. Get specific.
