dreamersreverie
So I just started taking a group fitness class, pure barre, and worked out on Tuesday. My muscles are slightly sore but was wondering how long should I wait before taking the class again? I read light exercise like biking, running, and those types of activities are good but I wanted to know if it's okay to take the class again today? Is that enough time for my muscles to heal or would do I need to wait a little more especially since my whole my body was shaking uncontrollably last class.
fitnessfan365
Moderate to low intensity cardio exercise is fine to do pretty regularly. But strength training style workouts are usually better spaced out. So assuming this is a class where you work your whole body, I'd say to take it 2-3 days a week w/48-72 hrs rest between. Then on days where you're not doing the class, do other forms of exercise like walking/hiking hills, taking stairs, biking, swimming, etc.. Remember, just because you should rest from a particular type of workout, doesn't mean that you can't be active in other ways.

Dutchman1
Hey dreamersreverie, I have made a plan with my instructor and diet coach. I work out 3 evenings a week for 2 hours, 1 hour cardio, and 1 hour abs, back and legs. One night a week I do aqua jogging. I'm 56 years old, my one pack becomes more a six pack every month. My BMI is now better than ever, Lost 19 kilo in 4 months. Your muscles heal, and when you hurt it means they are growing, because the healing changes the bad into the good. In workout you challenge an damage your muscles a bit, and in the healing they become better and stronger. Fruit like kiwi and avocado will do you good, greens like brocolli, and I take Zinc, Iron and vitamine D. When you will get past the "dead" point, for me it was 2 months, it becomes a habbit difficult to break. Stay on track. Dutchman
rbrock2323
I workout every day. I do back/biceps, then chest/triceps/abs, then legs/shoulders, then repeat until the weekend when I take care of house/hobby stuff. make sure you get PLENTY of sleep for good recovery.
PogoStick
Roughly every other day is good for exercise. During off days you can "active rest" by taking a walk, or some other mildly stressful activity.
newmoon
when muscles are sore and tired that means your body is changing, and that's a good thing. or so says my fitness instructor.
lchf
when muscles are sore and tired that means your body is changing, and that's a good thing. or so says my fitness instructor. That's not necessarily true. Muscle soreness is merely a bout of lactic acid build up brought on by inflammation. It doesn't always indicate muscles are growing or growth has stimulated.

You want to come back im sure, maybe some other light exercise and this class every other day. How are you treating the soreness? I am sore between work outs with my trainer but he says I do not need to do a lot daily. Are you just trying to slim up or actually build muscle? Do you recover after with a drink to replenish or recover?
