hmmm.....two people come to mind.

A friend of mine...and co worker at one point. Demeanor played a huge part. I witnessed his kindness to any one....He didn't base it on income of job title, he simply listened and guided....Sometimes he even found ways to laugh with a scenario, not at a person. He rarely allowed anything to shock him or send him into a tizzy....even keel and open to the "now" moments.

The other one would be my Mom. Gave without glorifying herself...humble....

Tended to the in-firmed... gave such compassion....Loved her kids unconditionally, and we certainly gave her many a reason to not be lovable....

I can't think of anyone that I know in person, but I'm a fan of Eckhart Tolle. When I read his work or listen to him talking in interviews, I feel comforted and I can feel the truth of what he is saying.

Clarissa Pinkola Estes has a similar, though less powerful effect on me when I read her book Women Who Run with the Wolves. I like that she uses psychological terms to explain the psyche. I understand that language best.

One of my best friends double majored in buddhist studies and physics at a prestigious school. His outlook on spirituality was amazing. He was a practicing buddhist but always remained scientific and thought very critically about things rather than just taking spirituality at face value. He was a brilliant and deep thinking person. But he killed himself six months ago.

One of my oldest friends, Lon Milo DuQuette.

He is a published author on the occult and spirituality so you can google him, but when we met - twenty years ago - he was holding Monday night philosophy classes in his house.

At that time, he worked in a real estate office and was barely supporting his wife and child. In the two decades I have known him, he has lost several hundred pounds, published more than a dozen books on metaphysics, and completely re-imagined his existence as a songwriter and performing (in his 60s, no less!).

I am not the only person to think highly of Lon and I am honored that he considers me a close friend as well. He is an absolute treasure of a man and hilarious. You can hear some of his songs on YouTube as well (but I won't provide a link that could get deleted).
