How can we learn from the past, if we 'let go' of the past?

Recommended Posts

....and haven't you noticed, this learning is infinite, it's continuous, it never stops, we never stop growing. It involves a constant shuttling back and forth between the present and the past. In fact, it's the only way we can learn, by associating/comparing present situations with knowledge from past experiences.

Dwelling in the past in terms of beating oneself up is a type of depression and has no connection with developing self-awareness.

I think it's interesting that as humans, we don't learn from the past, or our own pasts...

We call it 'new', but in essence it's the same old lie.

Why do you ask? Are you a creationist?

I'm a Creationist, but that isn't the reason for the question. No real reason, although it helps to know where you're coming from.

I studied paleoanthropology and evolutionary ecology at uni, interesting and essential learning, I believe. Anyway, each to our own.

The past is yours to keep in memory only, God gave it to you as evidence to keep locked away for when you need references. We are not meant to keep reliving it or to focus on it. We are meant to live in the present, in our present surroundings and appreciate every single new day. It's called life ... it's the present tense!!!

Having aged, means you have a past. Age is the natural evolution of human development. The past sheds like old skin - YOU EVOLVE!!

Why do you use the words "locked away"? If the past is locked away, how do we access it? If you refer to my post to basil67, we can't form views or perceptions of the present, without comparing it to the past. It's how our brains make sense of the here and now. For example, after my cat tried to eat a horrible-tasting cockroach, she doesn't bother catching them anymore. How she behaves in the present is dictated by her past. It's a never-ending, constant process. This is how we evolve.
