Accept $5,000,000 to have no romantic relationship in your life?

Recommended Posts

Absolutely! It'd allow me to travel more often to places I'd really like to see, have better accommodations and sample the more expensive things. Oh wait, I wouldn't be allowed to hook-up with the women I will meet there.

Absolutely not!

Seems to me like being paid $5M to be lonely and miserable would mean you're lonely and miserable, with $5M.

I tried living without sex. For me, a life without sex is not worth living. If I ever reach a point where I can't have sex anymore, I will probably finish what I started five years ago.

yeah, i'd take the money. this isn't even challenging. love being single, and friendships would suffice. heck, i waited til 30 to sleep with someone b/c no one was remotely appealing or hygenic enough. no biggie to give up romance and sex.

Whether we're conscious of it or not, the goal of life on Earth is to reproduce and ensure your offspring survive to reproduce themselves. I think you'd be hard pressed to find anyone who'd take any amount of money and then not feel some tinge of regret at some point when they couldn't have any kind of romantic encounter. It's something you can't put a price tag on.

Conversely, in another hypothetical scenario if you chose to be in a totally satisfying relationship and make no money, you'd be probably be equally as miserable eventually. You wouldn't be able to support yourself or your kids, your partner would start to resent you because you were unable to provide basic necessities, and your relationship would fall apart anyways. It'd be hard to be in a relationship with someone who's utterly reliant on you.

The conclusion being that you aren't going to be happy with just money or love. You need a good, quality amount of each to stay afloat.

Your own life, hobbies passions friends and family should be enough to keep you happy + you would not need to work for money though you could still work .

Can I have the money spread out into an annual amount, and also have each payout account for inflation? That way I don't overspend.

Am I taking this too seriously?

I'd like this except for what I think you're implying.

(I'd probably die of natural causes myself - tho I'm not sure if it'd be withering away or some sort of spontaneous combustion. ;))

"Should" being the operative word. Having a lot of money might be nice at first, but it's ultimately not going to affect your happiness that much. Most lottery winners wish they never won.

I agree that it's probably better to be hopelessly lonely with $5 million than it is to be hopelessly lonely without it. But money can't fulfill the biological need to reproduce.

As I said earlier, the goal of life is to reproduce and ensure your offspring reach reproductive age themselves. Money is the best resource to ensure that. Whether people realize it or not, that's why they like money. Materialistic things won't make you happy. Money only matters if you can do something meaningful with it, and the most meaningful thing you can do isn't serving yourself -- it's serving someone else, ideally your own children.

I wouldn't take the money. I need love, companionship and sex in my life.

Besides, I grew up surrounded by rich elites, debutantes, heirs, wealthy people....and quickly learned that money does not buy happiness.

Sure it can buy a plush lifestyle, and of course I would like to travel more, work less etc - but first, 5 million isn't that much.... And secondly, it can't buy anything that really matters.

2.50 a gallon

My previous relationship was with a very wealthy lady and family, who had I chosen to marry and father her children, as she and her parents wanted, I could have lived out my years living a life most dream of.

Alas, while I truly did love her, in over 6 years, I never came close to being in love with her.

I eventually I bagged my belongings and ran back to my home town, where I met my current GF of 20 years. We are not rich but very happy.

Yesterday, on her day off, we spent the day grocery shopping. As the commercial says: Priceless!

Women are the greatest anything on earth. And I am not saying that just because of sex. So no, I wouldn't give up a woman for 5 million.

What's the point of 5 million if you can't have a lady to share it with. I mean sure, you can now afford that red Lamborghini Aventador Superveloce (omg) you always wanted, but what's the point if you can never have a lady to ride with you?

Btw, 5 million ain't s**t in LA

Hypothetically speaking; if I paid you $5,000,000 in exchange for you not to have any sort of dating , sex , intimacy . would you do it?

$5,000,000 is a lot of money. Not infinite, but more than most people will ever have.

You can have great life by yourself right ?

Friendship allowed . but no romance whatsoever.

Get paid $5,000,000 to do exactly what it is I'm doing by choice already?

Count me in, I'd do this in a heartbeat, all the while throwing up confetti.

Why do you choose to not be with a woman? Just curious. I went through a bad break up in September and I told myself after the break up that I hate women. That lasted about 6 minutes.

Btw, I see there was a little bit of a rhyme to your post.

I have only ever dated one guy (on & off) and I've never been asked out by anyone else.

Seriously.

So hell yes, I'd take the money. I know I can live without a relationship, I'd rather not be stressing about bills.

hellllll freaking NO. Intimacy is probably one of the most important experiences in my life. I don't care if I can buy all the toys in the world; it won't be fun playing alone.

Also, if any kind of apocalyptic event happens or even an economical crash, you're screwed! All that money could be made worthless in an instant.

No.

I want a family and partnership and I can make that over the course of my life along with a partner, so I'd rather a relationship where we can earn together than no relationship EVER IN LIFE just for that sum.

It's a personal choice, much like replying in rhyme,

To see something through, even though I may fail from time to time,

As much as I tell myself I won't date and don't actively seek women out,

I doubt I'd turn away from a woman who made both of my brains shout!

As it stands, however, I'm up to a year of being single,

although I miss the energy of going out looking for women with which to mingle,

I find that my solitude has helped me to reconsider who I allow in my life,

and that most of the good women with morals and values are already a good man's wife.

So far it seems like the trend is those who are single, and not really looking for a relationship would take the $$

I consider myself an independent person. I can be a bit emotionally closed off, I really enjoy solitude, I am financially independent.... Yet its almost embarrassing to say that I have never been single in my adult (post 25) life.

I am not sure how happy I would be going it alone.... If I could have casual sex (but not a relationship) - Aaaaaand it was a whole bunch more than 5M (that buys a nice house here, nothing more).... Maybe.

Be careful what you guys wish for. That's all I'm saying.

I've been single for a month and a half. Because of it, my bank account has been climbing pretty quickly since I am spending a lot less. So what really is the point of the 5 million?

IMO, the people that would take the cash have the wrong idea about relationships, and it's too bad that it could be the fault of whoever you were with last.
