whitelily470
Hi there, I met this guy from work and he's great. We have a lot in common, we both like film making and I very much like him. Then I found out he was 21 and he found out I am 17. He doesnt seem to have a problem with it, he asked me out yesterday and wanted me to go to dinner with him so I said I can't this week, but I would love to next week. Is it inappropriate to be dating someone so much older than me? I am not immature for my age and personally dont have a problem with the situation. I live in Australia so we wouldnt be breaking any laws. I dont know, what do you think?
acrosstheuniverse
Doesn't seem like a big gap at all. Just make sure to keep in mind that you could be at different stages of your life, perhaps you're still in school while he's just graduated university and is forging his career or whatever. But, those differences can present in any relationship, of any age. When I was 17 I think I dated up to about 22/23 and it was no huge deal, it's not a large enough gap to be noticeable usually. 13 and 17 would be, but 17-21 is much closer. Question is, do you feel comfortable with it? Seems to me, that you wouldn't be asking unless you personally had some kind of question mark over it however.
basil67
I think it would be fine. Given that girls mature more quickly than boys, you're possibly of a similar maturity anyway.
