I think I have a cavity because my tooth hurts a lot and it seems to be dark in the middle. Is it necessary that I go to the dentist? because I am so scared of doctors!!! Is there anything else I can do? What does the dentist do when you have a cavity? I know we have a smart person here who can answer my questions ;)

You are falling apart!

Broken nails, lumps and bumps, itchy coo, funk teef.

Try some sensitive toothpaste crap.

Speaking of teef, I'm going to get mine cleaned now. Peace out!

Well.. I don't work for a GD BUT..

Get your butt to your dentist!

IF there is a cavity there it isn't going to go away.. if you don't get the decay out of there by getting it filled (with amalgam or composite) the decay will continue to spread and the tooth can get worse..

They will do X-rays, see whats up (if there is decay) if there is, then you'll get a local injection to numb the area, possibly a dental dam (looks like a tent in your mouth LOL) To keep the area dry (from saliva) then the tooth is drilled, the decay is removed and it's filled with typically amalgam BUT a lot of people are getting composite now because it isn't silver but white and IMO just looks nicer although it isn't as strong :)

Maybe look for a dentist that advertises "sedation dentistry." They'll put you out (so you don't freak out!) while they do all their work. You won't even know they've done anything.

But cavitie don't go away, unfortunately. They only get worse without a dentist's attention.

My mom's a dentist and she's the most wonderful person in the world. I'm sure she's not the only dentist that's not a cannibal ;) ! Go now, it can get really ugly if you wait - and I've got some really scary stories, LOL!!!

I had a root canal done last year. My therapist came with me and held my hand during it. What a wimpy wimp I am eh? Anyway, having her there made it easier. She talked me through the waves of anxiety and got me doing my breathing exercises. Hmm, that was Jan 04. I've not been back to the dentist since.

I'm looking into the kind of dentistry they actually put you under. That would be ideal for me because my fears have gotten worse!

in sept i went to tha dentist...i hadnt gone since i was like 7 or 8 and im 18 now...so ruffly ten yrs...up to date..wen i got my check up..i had SIX cavities..an had to have ALL FOUR of my wisdom teeth pulled out because they were layin on their sides...my mom had jus been laid off of her TRUe job and had til the end of the month to use tha dental insurance..so i had to go the next day..

now i hate pain...they gave me laffin gas, and two shots..one on each side of my jaws, it was small needles so i didnt really feel nothin...it was a small prick, felt like i touched my mouth with a fork or so..i got the porcelain cavity stuff and that didnt take long to do..they just drilled the cavity stuff out, and then laid the stuff in...dried it, and then i was done...

also gettin ya wisdom teeth pulled aint bad at all...they had to cut n my gums to move my teeth upward and then take them out....only thing i didnt like bout the pullin of teeth was that my mouth bled for two days str8...most normal folks bleed for one day, but i have alot of blood n me so wen i get cut even if its just to get a iron count i bleed for a long time..but other then that...dentist wasnt that bad...

i figure, id rather get it done NOW then pay later and have my teeth really hurtin where i need a rootcanal or they gotta extract all my teeth cuz they so rotten..

Yeah, my T is truely incredible. She's very supportive and the way she put it, part of the "exposure" therapy. Yeah, I got exposed all right! Freakin' out but she kept me calmer...Don't think I'd be able to do that if I was alone.

When I was a little kid, I used to BITE the dentist's finger. He hated me and was horrible...This is probably why my fears of dentists are bad now.

Goodness sakes, do you really have to ask the question? I mean, you have a tooth that's sore, it appears black in the center of it, and you don't know if you should see a dentist? Sorry but it seems obvious to me, of course you should. If you have a cavity and you leave it, you can end up with an abscess, or an infection going into your jaw/the root - will require way more than a cavity fix-up - could then require a painful and expensive root canal and crown application. Everyone should go at least every year for a full dental checkup including xrays and dental cleaning. It's really not a big deal.

Good lord, you went 10 yrs without seeing a dentist? Why? Where was your Mom all these years? It's a parent's responsibility to ensure their children see the dentist regularly. Your Mom was obviously quite neglectful, sorry to say.

moms was not neglectful, its called being a single parent trying to make it, and not having enough money to keep up with dentist bills, doctor bills, etc...thank you..

dentist bills arent 20 dollars a visit..hell it was 250 for each tooth pulled out of my mouth...so neglect no..being responsible in life trying to live, yes...

she got me the help i needed when she HAD the money..so are u going to say a homeless kid is being neglected because they have no home, but yet their parents our out on the street trying to put food in their mouth and clothes on their backs, and a shelter on their head..how about u do your commenting on what was originally posted, instead of commenting on how my mom was so called as u see it NEGLECTFUL...

as i said...she paid for it when she had the money...all 2609.17 cents of it..
