minimariah
i don't allow TV, exercise equipment, desk or office in my bedroom - with or without a partner. i have a huge bed, huge mirror above it, huge closet, lots of cute little lights, a bookshelf/vinyls shelf, a gramophone and one cozy big sofa - all of my partners liked it that way except for one, when we moved in together he had to have a TV in the room. it really bugged me. that's about it. RecentChange
I have a huge bed, huge mirror above it. We have been in our new place about a year now..... And I keep forgetting to add this important detail. Not over the bed, but we always used to have a mirrored closet door near the bed - or a large horizontal mirror mounted on the wall near the bed. I prefer the wall rather than the ceiling (like to watch doggy action etc). As for music, I am a little more new skool, The Weeknd has been my jams lately (always gets me in the mood, and has some real "banging' beats).
CarrieT
We have a television with my vast collection of old movies, Noir flicks, and British stuff that is not aired in the States. It is a small room so other than a shared dresser, the rest is all bookshelves. Lots and lots of books... Having only been married two years, this is the one place either of us can go - together or separately - to escape his teenage kids' television viewing which we don't appreciate. We also go there to read but there are times when I go there alone to knit and watch what I want, away from the family (yeah, I'm a snob, wanting my Elizabethan costume dramas over Family Guy or Walking Dead...) Lastly - and, yes, this is a justification for the television in our bedroom - I introduced my husband to Frasier or The Silent Service (a 1957 submarine television show), and after he has worked 12 and 14 hours days and we have done our family time, it is often the last thing he enjoys at midnight before we turn out the lights... No food, however. My two cats will sleep on my side of the bed. But not the dog. And all our tastes in music are too divergent to be played out loud.
cocorico
I just read an interesting article on what some folks allow in the bedroom and curious what others feel and how it works out for them.... Some feel the bedroom is only for sleep and lovemaking... and it has some interesting thoughts. For example, do you allow in the bedroom: TV (or if you do, are there limits) Pets Music Lights on at sleeping time Desk or office Exercise equipment Other? ------- My only "pet peeve" is pets. I do NOT like pets in the bedroom. Other that that, I could do whatever, but TV and lights out for sleeping. We have two studies, a home gym, and two lounges (one snug, with tv, the other for entertaining which also doubles as home cinema) so no call for any of that in our bedroom. The main guest bedroom has a computer, though, as does the single guest bedroom. Pets are allowed downstairs - including downstairs guest room - but not upstairs, and chickens aren't allowed indoors. We try to go to bed together, even though we have different rhythms - H is a morning person, and I sleep later, so he's usuall ready for bed before me. I'll join him in bed but read for a while, or arb on my tablet until I'm ready to sleep. On Sundays, we used to read the paper in bed but the newsagent has folded, so no more home deliveries
SJS
We have a small wall mounted tv with a built in DVD player, there is no cable or antenna hooked up. It never gets used unless the kid is sick and ends up in our room during the day. The dog has her own bed in the corner, but not allowed on our bed, and she usually ends up on her bed in the living room anyway. Then we have a dresser, nightstand and small bookcase. No room for anything else. Well, the fan... No reading, no music, lights off at bedtime.

I'm amongst the latter, but the SO likes the TV in the bedroom, and I can put up with it.... sometimes. But its a big old bulky one and should probably just get a small LED for the wall, just to get rid of the old bulky thing. And, would sure like an "auto off" feature. RecentChange
^^^ regarding "screens" I don't want them in the bedroom because they can negatively affect sleep. I have a really busy schedule, and week nights often only have time for 5-6 hours of sleep, so I try to make the bedroom a "sleep space" only, that means no screens (I dont my cell phone in there), darkness (heavy curitains), not a place for exercise etc. Other times in my life when my schedule was less hectic, I enjoyed having the bedroom as a "retreat space" and didn't mind a TV etc there. Recent, With your schedule, I can certainly understand... mind is not that hectic, but really like you argument that the bedroom is "sleep space" only, no nothing.... with the exception of toys when time to play.... Els
I was expecting a different sort of meaning to this question... We don't have any 'rules' per se, but we both don't see the point in having any of the equipment mentioned in the bedroom. There isn't much space left after the bed, dressers, wardrobe, clothes rack etc go in anyway.

I think a mirror on the ceiling would wind up scaring the hell out of me. I'd wake up in the morning and my first thought would be that I was fixin' to get hit by a naked skydiver.
Got it
We do have a TV in the bedroom though no TV when we go to sleep, I can't sleep with the noise or light. We do have one dog in the room, in his own bed, due to his continued need for light supervision. The other dog is on one of the kids' beds. Cat is not allowed in the room, lost his privileges. No exercise equipment, office, etc. We do have TVs in other rooms but I like to lie down in the room with the TV going especially while pregnant so that has come in handy. The baby will be in our room in a bassinet for at least 3 months until she can sleep for some stretch of time. I want to be awake as little as possible while I breastfeed. She will eventually move to her room. I imagine that during the "4th trimester" I will set up shop in the bedroom for most of my activities. I love bed. Bed is the best place. Tinche75
I always kept the bedroom for sleeping, sex and making love. Never a TV there! Sometimes the dog will come in there in the middle of the night to " check things out while making his rounds " and that's it.
