Jtizzle
i am thinking of getting my tongue pierced, and was curious as to how painful it is..how long does the pain last? do they use a big needle or a small one? how long did it take? any insights on what i need to know is greatly appreciated
LucreziaBorgia
The actual piercing part isn't that bad. When you wake up the next day though... When I had it done, the next day my tongue swelled up and it was painful to move it. Very painful. I found that foods that required the least amount of chewing was best. Took lots of Ibuprofin. Rinsed frequently, and kept it clean. It took at least a week before it didn't hurt to move, and another week after that until it wasn't as tender feeling. Its like any muscle injury really: it heals slowly and painfully. Once it healed completely (after a couple of months), I switched out the longer 'starter' bar for one that was more snug fitting to my tongue (as to not interfere with my teeth) and had translucent clear balls. The procedure is simple. The piercer will ask you to stick out your tongue, and he will determine the best location and angle for the bar depending on how your tongue fits in your mouth. Then he will make a dot with a special pen on the top of your tounge, center a clamp over the dot and then pierce it swiftly with a piercing needle (thicker than a sewing needle or a syringe needle, but smaller than a pencil lead), and then thread in the bar. The threading/screwing in of the ball was pinching a bit. That part wasn't so bad. Seriously, its the first week of healing that will get you. Go buy foods that don't require chewing. I ate soup, jello, and very mushy mac-n-cheese after the first day (the first day was mostly just cold water and Ibuprofin). Keep your pain meds on hand. The less pain you feel, the quicker you will heal. After you get it in, you will have to pay close attention to chewing - if that ball works its way between molars on the way down for a chew: you will get a painful crack to the teeth. 'Careful chewing' will become second nature after a while, or at least until you can get a smaller bar. It was an interesting experience. I took out my bar some time ago, and just never got around to putting it back in but it was interesting while it lasted.
moimeme
Dentists are having to repair mouthsfull of broken teeth because of these tongue piercings. And imagine how awful it would be if it got infected! I suggest you speak to your doctor and dentist before you do this.
SexKitten
i used to have mine, it's gone now i and i do miss it. but it didn't hurt one bit. i had a big needle, i asked for a 14 gauge and they used a 12...my stud was huge, it took a lot of getting used to. i don't understand, also, why a smaller number means a bigger needle? it swelled for about 3 days and then it was fine... a lot of the time, i noticed my tongue felt hard. it would come and go. i don't think i would do it again, but it was fun while it lasted. i would probably still have it if it didn't get ripped out. tiki
Don't you think it's kind of....dated? I mean, really? Belly button rings, eyebrow rings, tongue rings and labret piercings. They're okay...but a little dated or something. Consider that. Because you're a wee-bit late for the fad. That is, if it's a fad issue.
Teag
Mine didn't hurt hardly at all. They pierced mine w/ a 14 gauge & it swelled alittle but not too bad. I was eating chicken later that night. It was sore for a while but not really painful. I've had mine for almost 5 years & still love it. I started wearing the acrilic balls now the metal balls hurt my teeth so I have to stick w/ the plastic. (thier prettier anyway) My H also has his pierced & he said the actual piercing hurt him but the guy who did his put the clamps on really tight & walked out of the room for a minute leaving his tongue danglling out of his mouth. Skeered
Had mine done...HATED it...never healed right and I did everything I was supposed to. But once it started to seem like it was healing I took it out. Didn't like the way it looked on me and it was messing up the backside of my teeth. I opted to get my bellybutton and cartiledge pierced and I love them both. I'm a tattoed freak too so I felt the tongue piercing was overkill...LOL (jk)
morrigan
The tongue is the one area I would definitely least be likely to get pierced, just from the experiences of people I know. The piercer will tell you it's not smart to smoke if you have one either. If you really like your teeth with all their enamel on them, I wouldn't do it. Is your job fine with piercings? A friend of mine ended up having to take hers out because her boss saw it while he was talking to her and said it could possibly offend customers. Stupid, but that's how some places are. i would probably still have it if it didn't get ripped out. Yeouch! That's almost as bad as the dude that had his prince albert piercing ripped out. Naive
When I had my tongue pierced I was 18. It did not hurt when they sticked the needle through my tongue but oh boy did it hurt afterwards. I could not even drink soups. It was ice for me for about a week. Even my gums hurt!!! That's one of the reasons that it took so long for me to take off my piercing. I did not want all that pain to go to waste
