are female cat owners more likely to have emotional issues?

Recommended Posts

Nikki Sahagin

I've always loved cats (and animals generally). I own one. Joint pet.

Do I have emotional issues?

Hm...

Don't we all to some extent?

There is the stereotype of the crazy cat lady...but I don't know how accurate it is. Sure some girls with cats are stereotypical but many are not.

Agreed. I've been out of the horse world for a long time now, but I haven't forgotten. I don't think it's a scenario many men would be happy with unless

a) they were equally involved with horses, or

b) they didn't mind feeling like groupies at gymkhanas

So yes...a woman with a clowder of cats might be a bit fussy, high maintenance or whatever else...but the average guy would probably find that preferable to a sturdily healthy, hair-netted sergeant major yelling at him to steer clear for his own safety while she picks out the hind hooves of her precious thoroughbred.

Haha that's why I leave him at home. He has his mountain biking / dirt biking and football to keep himself busy. I will say, for us, each having our own time consuming hobbies works well... We are both pretty independent, so we go do our own things. His friends always ask, how do you get so much freedom on the weekends?! I am busy riding.. We hang out weekend evenings.

But I am the riding boot wearing, classically German trained type rider, who knows how to be "dominate"... Takes a certain kind of man to put up with the likes of me!

OH YEAH.

I always thought one day I'd end up an old woman sitting on a rocking chair with whole bunch of cats around me in the middle of the woods somewhere.

A total Cat-Ass-Trophy.

I have a friend who falls into the crazy cat lady group. All nine of her cats need to approve of the guy she's dating.

Based on personal experience, I'd be more wary of women who own horses than women who own cats. If nothing else, I may or may not be expected to clean litter boxes, but I know who's going to wind up shoveling the horse poop. And I really know where I'm going to wind up on the list of priorities vis-à-vis the horse.

Hey quit calling me out with my lovely horses...pay more attention to your fifty kids!

:p

My sister has cats and a dog. Every time I visit, I try to feed the cats or dog food. Real food. Meat!

They all seem to be vegetarians. The cats and dog only eat what my sister puts before them. Granola cereal, nuts and berries. This cant be right for them.

in my social circles I have noticed females with cats tend to have more emotional issues

The females i know are otherwise very normal, attractive, nice, friendly, have careers, smart, etc. etc.

but i have noticed that females i know who are cat owners tend to have more emotional issues and have more issues in their relationships or just cannot maintain a relationship. Then the girls i know who are dog owners

Not saying that women without cats are not as likely to have issues ( this is just something i keep noticing with cat owners)

I also know of 2 girls, one has a pet snake, one has a pet tarantula, both super hot girls....( personally speaking if a girl has these super exotic kind of pets, it is a definite no. )

(FYI)

I think cats are super cute, and wonderful to have as pets, I am just curious is this a phenomena i just happen to see or is it a real thing. Also I am not saying all females who have cats have issues

FYI 2

I have only seen this with females, I personally have not seen anything with males. but maybe others have. Just speaking from personal experiences.

Anyone else have dating experience with cat ladies? insight into this subject?

I do not like cats. I never will harm a cat though I do love to say that the only good cat is a dead cat.

Some people are dog lovers some cat lovers. I have found that I can relate better to the dog people. Sort of like a conservative verses liberal.

I love my dogs, I love my horses and I also love my chickens...

If I could find a man like my horse I would be set for life.

He is a bit rough round the edges but he has a fantastic sense of fun. He never demands but asks. He is a bit goofy and daft. We have our secrets he and I. We have had fun times and bad times. We have seen each other through sickness and health. So he is missing teeth now and has a bit of a love handle thing going on. I like it. The same way I like shoving my hands up under his rug in the winter to warm them up. The same way he leans in to have his ears scratched... Yep if I could find a man who is anywhere near as devoted, fun, sincere and loyal as my horse I would be a happy woman.

Ok I admit it... I am bat s*** crazy... :D

Yes I hug my chickens...

Yes my dogs sleep in the bed

Must resist..., must resist... ..lol..

I can understand the whole women w/ horses thing because we had horses when I was growing up and my sister was one of them. I'm not sure I'd call her crazy, but her horses were always her first priority and a lot of guys just couldn't deal with it.

Owning animals is great...I love animals...I think the only time it starts to get weird is when people start getting goofy and obsessed...There is a certain "coldness' that these people display towards humans, while their animals get the Royal treatment....

The reason why its mostly women that get tagged with this knock, is because its not been my experience that guys do this with animals or cats...Now, don't get me wrong, guys have other unhealthy obsessions, but its usually not animals..

Someone who owns one or two cats is probably just an ordinary person who likes cats. Someone who owns a bunch is probably compensating for something.

My cats LOVED my first sb. The one cat always came running when she walked in the door. But they would have nothing to do with no 2.

My new sb is a total animal lover.

In my experience, people who don't like cats or dogs and don't want them are the people with the real issues. But each to his own. If loving something an innocent little creature is beyond someone's capabilities, then I find that alarming.

I have a friend who falls into the crazy cat lady group. All nine of her cats need to approve of the guy she's dating.

i have never had to ask a cat to approve of a man i date...nor would i but what i do notice is how comfortable the animals are around a guy.....

i have missionaries often in my house....the cats dont even get up they just loll around next to them.....my dogs vie for attention from them.....because animals feel intentions from people.....they do have a sixth sense.....

there was this one guy who comes to my house he is a troubled soul....extreme drug addict......my dogs including a rottie..... hide behind me.....follow me every where wont leave my side.......the cats disappear.....it is the sign i need to be cautious....

i had a ridgeback once a girl ...placid nature but protective.....had a guy come to my house...from a dead sleep she woke and would not let him near me....she had never behaved that way before....her hair on her neck ...stood up and didnt go down until he left.....

i do take cues from the animals i own......because it has been proven ....to be right and spot on...my animals are well adjusted social animals.....extremely loving.......affectionate every single one...i have to put them out...when missionaries come...because they hang off them..deb

I remember a number of years ago I went out on a first date then she invited me back to her apartment.

Anyways it turned out she had 4 cats and the place smelled like strong cat piss and pooh which almost made me gag.

She wanted to have sex but I didn't think I could get it up with those strong smells wafting thru the air. I made some excuse and split.

This thread is both silly and depressing as poop!

I just lost my cat of 13+ years - very suddenly and tragically, I still do not understand exactly how she passed. I returned from a trip visiting family/friends, and a week or some later, she was deceased. :(

Collectively, close to $10K was spent to try to save her (which depleted myself and my family - we will recover on our own and with each other's though she was my 'baby').

Saying goodbye to her was traumatic in itself, she was then in a catatonic state; doctors tried to operate but her insides were too damaged.

Still navigating through the heartache but throughout then and now, to us, she was a blessing and we all cherish the time we had with her.

This partakes in what I am much thankful for (family/friends/pets/etc.). They are all so truly important. :bunny:

Oh I don't know that it's the path to innocence! I know more than one woman who ran off with the farrier, and such a time consuming hobby means a lot of time one doesn't have to account for.....

As a rider, I am still cosigning with gorilla and saying watch out for the horse chicks.

In my world that is far more common with the few heterosexual males in the community since they are a hot commodity. Known of a number of marriages, especially when both are in the horse world, ended because the guy got caught dallying with a working student.

Ahhhh, well you know what they say aboug dressage queens . . . ;) (coming from a crazy, rough and ready eventer. :D)

In my world, most eventers are just focused on their horses, whether or not something is broken enough to not compete or just use some duct tape, and trying to get that darn OTTB into the start box before he melts down. lol!! (kidding on the stereotypes).

Oh, and if the horse chick in question has a few pennies to rub together, expect her to also head to SC/NC or FL for part of the winter. I have yet to be about to break away from work but one of my horses is going down for the second year again. Lucky puss gets to spend 6-7 weeks in the sun and warmth while the rest of us suffer in the cold. lol. Hubby luckily understands and just calls her "our sportscar". lol. I have been blessed, while surrounded by non-horse family and friends, to be very supportive of my passion. I couln't imagine my life without my horses. In fact waiting for daylight to go feed my old guys. I am on borrowed time before my baby comes and I can't pitch in with their care for awhile.

Yes you must resist!

My relationship with my old nag is purely platonic but I have to confess if I could find a guy with his temperament and character and rugged good looks... Well that man would be chained to my bed!
