BigB
I'm curious. what is it about men in uniforms that's hot? I hear this all the time about Cops, Firemen, Military, etc. Is it actually the uniform that add's to the attractiveness of the person? or is it that the guys who work these kind of jobs are typically fit, strong, confident, etc.? Does the same thing apply to other men in uniforms? ie: The plumber? The UPS guy? Security Guards? Cable guy? If your not attracted to guys in uniforms, explain. Thanks, B
dawn duval
As far as I can tell we're genetically wired that way. I LOVE firemen. A couple weeks ago a local fire dept was doing training in my apartment complex. I stepped out of my door and the sight of all those men in their fireman outfits made me swoon. Almost took the day off work so I could watch. Now I wish I had....and filmed it. But it's definitely not all uniforms: The plumber? no...arse crack come to mind. Oh, but they don't have uniforms. The UPS guy? now those are some nice specimen, so buff, and those cute shorts. I drool over them daily. Security Guards? no, they tend not to be as vavoom as firemen or ups men Cable guy? no, same as security guards
whichwayisup
Definately FireFighters for me. They're hot, they can cook and they all have amazing sense of humours! (I know cuz I spent 2 months at a firehall and did a story/spread on FF's.) So spending time there I got to see "behind the scenes" and man, I tell ya, I loved "workout" time! **GET yer fithy minds outta there! I'm talking about them doing weight lifting and stuff. HOT HOT HOT! A FF in uniform and seeing them on the truck is really cool! All Heroe's in my eyes!
moimeme
They don't draw my eye much more than men in suits. I think if there's a reason they attract, it's that they usually make the guys appear to have the 'ideal' male physique - broad shoulders and narrow waist. Very sharp and neat. Especially now when guys wear baggy pants hanging off their butts and big baggy shirts, an outfit that is more fitted looks nice. Imagine how thrilled you guys would all be if women took to wearing huge baggy tops and slacks!
Merin
Men in Uniform I was married to a Cop Dated a Fireman Dated an AirForce Guy Had a relationship with a Marine What is so appealing.. I guess for me the uniform is just sexy.. these are all jobs that can be dangerous and I guess it's the idea that this Guy can handle himself.. it's just IMO very masculine. There is also a strong sense of "family" if you will usually amoung these Guys in these professions.. I'm guessing because it requires team work to be effective and you have to count on others to have your back in certain situations.. this again is very appealing to me. Oh yeah.. and guys in other uniforms like the UPS guy and the Cable Guy.. not so much I can't help but think of Jim Carey in "The Cable Guy"
Mr Spock
Some people have problems with authority (uniforms) other people try and sleep with it. I don't find police officers particularly appealing in uniform, if at all. Or military. Yeesh, yuck. Give me a pair of grease stained coveralls however, and I melt. Go figure. Maybe go have a looksee at the stats of rates of alcoholism, abuse, and suicide in those professions. You might lose that happy shiny image you seem to have.

Well Moi considering I was married to a cop and dated an assclown marine I wouldn't say my outlook is all shiny.... but yes there is a sense of family among THEM as co workers.... You might lose that happy shiny image you seem to have. yeah, unfortunately it's true. firemen have a life expectancy of 49. Alcoholism, divorce, and heart disease are rampant. I know for cops (as my dad is a cop, and I want to be a cop) the divorce rate is something like 70%, alcoholism is around 50%, and the life expectancy is (i think) 51. Unfortunately for me the kind of cop I've been applying for (correctional officer)doesn't get sexy uniforms, they get ugly, baggy, green jump-suits, and can't wear them in public(too dangerous). They also get hurt a lot. Recently I've been leaning more towards something a little more safe, Animal Control Officer. Me thinks the girls will dig that a little. uniform + puppies
Mr Spock
Ugh. Bylaw officer jobs SUCK.....stay away from animal control. Believe me.

Horse
I spent five years in the military. I got a lot more attention from women after I got out and got rid of those pajamas and that haircut. There were women who were attracted to the uniform, but I wasn't usually attracted to those women. It seemed like they were more attracted to the security that the uniform represents than the person wearing the uniform. Seriously, when I was in the Air Force I really had to work to get girls. There were several times when I was in, until I told the girl that I was in the Air Force and they suddenly lost interest. A couple months after I got out I had girls literally begging to go out with me. In the Air Force The divorce rate for my job was close t o 75%. Infidelity was the norm. "What goes TDY stays TDY." I didn't make much money and I shared a small dorm room with another guy. I lived on a base that had about a 10 to 1 guy to girl ratio. Things have changed since 9/11 though. I think many people appreciate the military, police and fire department more now.
jellybean
Ladies: Why are men in uniforms hot? Ooooh yeah, airline pilots and cruise ship captains too! *swooning and drooling* I've always felt kind of embarrassed to admit I'm a sucker for a man in uniform. Even though I've dated a firefighter and a Brinks armed guard - who were total JERKS - my head still spins around and I just have to gawk when I see a police officer. Can't really explain the attraction - I am well aware it's usually just an ordinary guy behind the uniform, but to me - they look sooooo sexy!
SoleMate
what is it about men in uniforms that's hot? Ooohhh, great question! This will be fun to answer! As others have noted, not all men in all uniforms exhibit this phenomenon. However, all women from age 13 to 98 are able to identify it on sight. The effect is best when the man in question: * Is fit and has great (military) posture - you never see military men schlumping or letting their guts hang out * Is wearing a fairly snug, well fitting, well-tailored uniform, because it shows off the masculine figure so well * Is a member of one of the "glamour" uniformed services (mostly gun handlers, come to think of it): military officer, police, highway patrol. NOT animal control, cable, prison guard, etc. * Has a cocky, self-confident manner and bearing - imagine a highway patrol officer behind his mirrored shades * Exhibit discipline in his speech, the way he moves, the way he thinks. You get the idea of a veneer of civility over the caged manimal inside the uniform. Why do all the above factors combine to create such an appealing visual package? BECAUSE...they create the appearance of HYPER-MASCULINITY by embodying power, dominance, sexuality. BTW - many of the same idealized factors of HYPER-MASCULINITY that make such an appealing visual package also tend to create the bad behaviors that make such men impossible to live with - violent, cheaters, aggressive, dominating, unable to bend but can only break. seahorse
It's the power thing. These guys give off the image of being tough, in control, masculine. Service uniforms (especially marines) are the best. Firemen YES. Policemen YES. Most uniforms - swoon. ...and a man in a really sharp suit with a white shirt and tie. MMMMMMM. Oh...and as a scottish girl, I can say, give me a hairy highlander in the full dress kilt and I just melt at the knees.
goodnbad
Ohhhhh, firemen....... I worked my school placement at the fire department office in the 80's. All those guys running by in their undies in the casual/tv room...... Sheesh. I guess that's where the facination started. I saw some of them the other day at the river, practicing their water-rescue stuff. Picture all these muscular guys in white t-shirts (soaked) with suspenders......***drool*** And then I took the kids to an open house there today, and yep, there they were again. There was this one really nice-looking one that was flirting with me madly, and, wow, was that great! Afterwards, my one son says, "Gee, Mommy, wasn't he nice?" Ohhhh, yeah, he was! Gee, is it getting warm in here or what? I think what I like about firemen is that they can be so fun and yet be so serious. They have this aura of "I-will-risk-my-life-for-you" stuff and I love a hero. I find policemen attractive to a point too. There's just something about seeing an officer spiffied up with that prominent gun hanging off his belt. Again, the protector role! But cops can't really hold a candle to firemen, IMO. I do not find military people attractive at all. What comes to mind is someone who is very bold, pushy, rigid-thinking, and demanding, and I find that a turn-off. No offense to any military people out there, it's a stereotype sure, but that's what comes to mind first.

I just always thought they were bodyguards, dressed in ordinary men's clothing, and that's the 'secret'..... Feel free to correct me, phil
CurlyIam
I hate the mere idea of authority. I dated a guy who was in the Police Academy for a couple of years and he was really really nice. However, very ... family oriented. That's how I felt him. Dumped him after 2 months. I hate autority figures. I'm very risk aversive and I don't think I'd stand two dates with a man who's a fire fighter. One of my collegues in my Master was working as a firefighter a couple of nights a week. He was married with a small child. Go figure . However... plane pilots... woow, I have a weak spot for those. The white uniform, well educated, well groomed... too bad for all those sleezy stewardeses that take them out of the competition. Like my mom said about doctors" you're not a good doc unless you're screwin' your nurse". So I guess that makes me give all men in uniform a big thumb down, !
moimeme
However... plane pilots... woow, I have a weak spot for those. Welll now maybe those Cars - feh, but a guy who drives all that power - yowza! Same with military pilots, actually. Still, as Curly says, the cheat factor is probably a lot higher for those guys so, while nice to ponder, best left as theory LOL. swirlingdaisy
Of course they generally look good in their uniform, but to me...the attraction is not just how they look but what the uniform signifies..........I have the utmost respect for guys in the military, cops, EMS, firefighters, etc.....their bravery, they put their butts on the line to help others.......that's what I find so attractive and admirable. I guess it's sort of different for the UPS guy, plumber, etc......even though I'm sure they look just fine, they're generally not doing a job that carries the same risks as the first group. Strangely enough, Pilots don't do much for me, just as doctors don't. I think Pilots have such a reputation of being dogs who have women all over the place - that turns me off. I think most doctors are arrogant and have "God complexes" so they've never attracted me at all.
