I recently turned forty but even though I feel my age in my body, I feel about twenty-five in my mind. How many of you forty somethings(and older) feel the same?

I'll be 54 soon, and I'd say my mind is around 28. I work with people who are close to 60, and that still seems like a generation before me. I don't feel like I fit in. Not sure if that's a good or a bad thing!

Sure, it's normal. My grandmother told me that she was always shocked by the old woman in the mirror, because in her heart she felt like a girl.

at 52 I don't feel my age, I work a hard 12-14 hour day, 5-6 days a week and don't have any trouble staying far ahead of the younger generation I work with..

some of it is just plain drive, I had drive at 20 and still do at 52, physically though.. my hands hurt, my knees creak and hurt on occasion and it takes my body longer to heal from work injuries... but oh well...

I think my mind at 20-25 was faster and sharper but I was crippled by not being experienced.

40's.. heck the 50's have been the best so far...

I am 50 and feel like a 25 year old every day......if I could only find one.:lmao:

Seriously though - its only when I hit things hard in the gym or on the mat and get injured that I think "oh ya I am not 25. Frack , I need some ice and Motrin"

AMEN!!! :D

Chronologically I'm in my mid-forties but my heart and spirit still feels like I'm a blossoming teenager! I always get compliments from people about what a youthful spirit I have and how I still look at the world with awe and wonder. I'm quite proud of that fact.

My mother is 76 and is just as youthful and vibrant as she was in her thirties. And she STILL gets hit on by men half her age!

Age is just a number and attitude is everything.

Hah, I'm exactly the opposite. I just turned 31, but feel at least 40.

It was the same from the time I was 25-26. Before that I felt like... 35.

I have never understood why. To emphasize - I do not look old, but definitely feel old.

I'm in my mid 40's and I don't think I feel young because when I was in my 20's I was so terrified of messing my life up.

Now I don't care.

But not in a bad way.

If you think about it you can't do well or mess up because everything is always changing and perceptions fluctuate. Some people might look at my life as a waste others would beg to change places with me. My assessment changes day to day as well. So I try not to think too much or judge too much.

I get up in the morning and wonder who that old guy is in the mirror! I still think and still mostly feel 25, though. I used to feel a lot older when I was younger, but I think that was my ex dragging me down.

I am 45 and look and feel at least 10 years younger. My boyfriend is 9 years younger and no one believes I'm older than him.

I often feel like I'm only 12 yo. Maybe my brother was right and I am mentally retarded.

I'm only 38, but I'm feeling really old lately. I haven't been sleeping well, haven't had time for exercise. And it's wearing on my body and mind. My stress level is high.

Plus the fact that most of my relatives who in the generation above me are reaching a point of really poor health, I feel like I'm part of the generation responsible for 3 other generations. (young kids, sick seniors, really sick really seniors)

I'm physically - chronologically - in my late 50's apparently.

Chronologically, I have measured the passing of weeks, months and years, and marked the time according to events...

Psychologically, I waver between being around 19 to maybe 25.

At the most. Perhaps at times, younger, but never older.....

And psychological age, time, and its passing, is far, far more important than the time we measure by calendars, diaries and time-tables.

Chronological time is what we eat, we sleep, we work, we travel, we attend....

Psychological time is what we live, we love, we dance, we laugh we cry.

And we die.

At 41 I'm watching Spongebob Squarepants, finishing Harry Potter, playing with legos, and scarfing down some gummy bears ...... all while typing these words ;)

I can't wait to turn 42 - LOL

That sounds horrible. I'm so sorry.

Emotionally, I'm 12. Sometimes 12 and a half :bunny:.

I feel terrified about my mom getting older. I still think of her wearing 4 inch heels and sporting long dark wavy hair. I don't like seeing my mom growing older. She's not too crazy about it either.

I think I have the opposite problem of the OP and others...

At 50 I look and feel great, strong...rock solid...No wrinkles. no aches and pains...I do work my ass off though...Lots of training and clean living..

But I am getting so ornery and jaded, I am starting to be like the Clint Eastwood character from the movie "Gran Torino"....

Now excuse me while I chase some kids off my yard..

TFY

No amount of qualifications via looks or feelings can change the fact that I am the age I am. Next year all of us will be a year older, no matter how you look and feel. No delusions here:p

Nobody here is talking about LOOKS, with regard to the OP's original question.

The question is about how 'old' you FEEL.

Some days I look thirty-five.

Others I look my age.

I always 'look' much fitter, better, healthier, more vibrant, in the sunny, long summer days than the glum, cold short winter ones.

I'm of the opinion that hibernation isn't an altogether bad or screwy idea....!

My mum`s in her 60`s.

She`s always glammed up. She chats up blokes etc...

She`s always been like this. I cannot remember a time when her vanity came 2nd.

But she is rather wonderful. (She calls me `Darling`)
