Krieger Posted December 4, 2015 Share Posted December 4, 2015 Well I need to study and focus more now in school because the classes are getting harder and harder . I got a book called The inner guide 2016 planner it is more of a life coach in book forum . On top of that got every thing organized and in it place . Also I all ready got my text books for winter quarter and studying them is what I am going to be doing over break . On top of that I have given up all my friends , family, going out and meeting people , activities I enjoy , anything not college related ,and sleep I will not let myself get more than 4 to 5 hours a night 7 days a week. Oh we cant forget woman I will not date I cant even if I wanted to . When it comes to social life I do not have one I do not need it. I started to push people away if they get to close . I just tell them I have to much to do or tell them I cant hang out . All I do is work 40+ hours and go to my night class and do my online class and that my life right now. I know not getting out much is not good but I have to go all in or I will never become successful. However I might allow myself to go out but only to the library and back home so I can study some more. I am go9ing to spend all day and night at the library 10 am till 9pm . I have to study on my break and my lunch break. I can see my dreams and goals slipping away from me so I have to go get back on track . The desire to feel like you're not a loser drives me. I don't know if that's the healthiest thing to be motivated by a fear of hating yourself. I feel like I've failed in terms of what my potential is. My motivation is not to be the guy at work that is 60 and can not retire because he be homeless if he does . The sad part is that the company I work for will fire him in a year or two and he will be homeless . They can careless that you be on the streets you get to old you get 86 and living in your car. Do I want to be a almost 60 and still in the same place in life with no upward mobility. Then think about what could of been? If I do not turn this around I can forget becoming a father someday getting married and owing a house. I cant live in a 400 sq ft apartment at 1k a month for the rest of my life. Like I told my boss I am here to make you money and to be your friend not to tuck you in to bed at night and read you a bed time story . I am not good at brown nosing just never been good at it. I even dislike when people say nice things to me it makes me fell uneasy. I do not have an ego like a lot of upper management type . Too many of the corporate types need there ego stoked . I know but once i get the the hard classes out of the way I can have fun for a day or two . I do make time for fun after 12 weeks I take a week off . All I know is when I take anatomy and Physiology 1 than anatomy and physiology 2 i will not see the light of day . I talked to teachers and students and if you want an 4.0 in thatvclass you need to put in 3 to 5 hours a night of studying in 7 days a week on top of class time 3 days a week. Human beings need some rewards. Haven't you heard the saying All work & no play makes Krieger a dull boy? Read up on S.M.A.R.T. goals. Then make a more feasible plan which involves proper rest, good nutrition & some socialization. So you work 9-5. Can you get oral study guides so you can listen to them on your commute? Perhaps 3 days per week study on your lunch hour & 2 days per week eat lunch with colleagues. You need human interaction that is not solely focused on school or work. Balance is important. Maybe getting up one hour earlier to study would be a good idea. Not sleeping at all is dangerous & unhealthy. You can't retain the material if you are exhausted. You would do better to study over a longer period & get good grades by taking fewer courses then cramming it all in just to make barely passing grades. Build in a reward for yourself say take every Friday night off & 1 Saturday night per month. If you don't do these things you will burn out & accomplish nothing. Link to post Share on other sites

Re-read the list from your 1st post. You are giving up everything, not just time killers. If you said you were giving up LS, social media, TV & video games I'd say fine, good for you. It's not forever and you will have plenty of time to socialize more again once you attain your goal. Just make sure to take care of your health. Sleep as much as your body needs. Sleep deprivation will make you stupid and it'll be more difficult to learn/perform at school. Good.diet, exercise and sleep will leave you feeling sharper. Other than that, attack it like a wild animal, as you are already doing. Looking forward to hearing the day when you say you got some good grades and the degree. How many hours of sleep do you need? According to the National Institutes of Health, the average adult sleeps less than seven hours per night. I'm suggesting you see your family once in a while & same with your friends. Maybe not hang out every night but do make time for other people for a few hours every week. I do plain to make time for people but it will only be for a few hours or an afternoon. I do not really watch tv that much or play video games it too time consuming to me. It would be nice to date but I rather have a career and be lonely than be in a relationship and hate my job . I dont really hate my job but i need to feel challenged and have something to work towards. My job is supper easy and they pay too much for what the job is. I just feel it is up to me to beat the cycle of working dead end jobs if i want my kids to have a better job than me . For me my job does define me as a person. Who has time for 8 hours of sleep a night? More sleep would be great but even as a kid i would get 5 to 6 hours of sleep a night. On my days off i try to get 7 hours but if i get more than that i feel tired and slow . If i can get 5 to 6 hours it will be just enought . With this attitude, it will certainly come. Thanks for the nice words . I do need to take better care of myself and plain to eat better than I do . I do not eat fastfood very much a few times a year when i forget my lunch or something. However i did make thw mistake of not eating for 24 hours and I woke uo with the biggest headache I ever had. Also i am going to try to have some balance but limited amount of fun. On top of that no more 19/20 hour days try to make everyday an 16-18 hour day . The good thong about being old by college standards is i tell the young 18-20 year olds do not wait to go to college or in my case dont wait to long go back . 1 Link to post Share on other sites

Good attitude as nursing is a lot harder than pre-nursing (I chkd out a few of your old threads). If you get mid to high As in pre-reqs, you can expect to get Bs in nursing. The attrition rate in nursing school is so high because students do not realize how hard the material is. Good to get your ducks in a row early. But...working smarter is as good and sometimes better as working harder. The combination is the key. You do not have to divulge if you don't want to but it seems that that is a concern for you or that as the classes get more difficult you fear failure as you put in your all now and just barely hanging onto A's in your classes. Perhaps instead of asking what more you can "give up" maybe ask what more you can "add to" the equation. I'll give you an example. I have a business...as a professional tutor...and I tutor pre-nursing and pre-med students...in chemistry, ochem, anatomy and physiology, microbiology and general biology. Most of my students are smart. They can get A's in other classes but a few of the classes I've listed they just can't pull the A's. That's when they call me. They are hard working students but when they put more time into studying, they just are not seeing the results. When they hire me to work with them, their grades go up...sometimes from a D to a B or C to an A. I'm an expert at these classes and teaching students ways to retain and spit out the material on the exams is my forte ...the latter part is an important element of my tutoring. Have you thought of hiring a tutor to help you? This isn't just about being organized, although that is important. Tutoring also takes into account the learning style that works best for the student. Somewhere you mentioned you have to take A & P 1 and 2. From reading your posts, to do well in these courses you must have a good command of spelling ... that seems to be an issue for you. You mentioned in a prior thread "yea i know i need to proof read things . It just my brain is alway at 100 MPH and every one else is going 60 MP" I don't think your professors will care to hear of your reasoning behind misspellings, just that a question is wrong if misspelled (wait till you have lab practicals and have to know 1000 bone sites ...all with words that average 15 letters or 500 muscles all with origin, insertion and action locations). You might want to work on this a little. FYI...my brain works just fine and I'm an ace speller ... I'd venture to say there are many others on this forum whose "brain speed" is well above 100 mph and they are excellent spellers. If you want to reach your goal/dreams, fine tune a few things. However, I'm not so sure that your "time killers" are really that. I learned the hard way that success doesn't just come from good grades or working hard, a lot of it comes from the connections you build with other people. I'm in a medical program. Only one semester I felt like I couldn't hang out because of the material. This past year I've spent rebuilding my friendships because school or job won't always be in your life. After school you work and after you retire.. .you have to think about the end goal. You need a healthy balance. Do a club once a week. Go to the gym 3x a week. Social support is so important especially the nights you will have break downs in medical field programs (bachelors to med school they are all hard). Link to post Share on other sites

II know it is not going to be easy if it was everyone would do it. Once I do get accepted I am not going to work at all so I can go all in in my studying. I just do not see the point of working one or two days a week. On top of that a lot of places are not flexible with the work schedule. What classes are you taking next semester? I am only taking two this quarter and I am taking Introduction to Statistics 7:50 pm till 10:00 pm every tue,thur and one online class Intercultural Communication. Mostly because I do not want to get hurt or feel people will never accept me for me. On top of that I do not have much to offer a woman so what would a girl want to be with me? I do not have a career yet and college is not done. Sure I can give my love but most woman want more than that IMO they want a guy that is going some places in life because they are. Next what if she gets her goal accomplished and I do not I feel like I let her and me down in a way. Also my dad did the same to me growing up when I was young I try to get his attention and he push me away. My dad was a workaholic and was not around much until late at night. All I wanted was to play catch with my dad but every time he would push me away like he did not want to be seen with me. Going all in is a good recipe for achieving the results you desire.
