Does attitude make you success?

Recommended Posts

I've heard a lot of people say "your attitude is everything,it is the important portion leads you to become successful"

It may sounds right.but I doubt that, physical appearance is one thing we should keep in mind too.

I've seen some exception, but it's rare.Lots of fields and kind of career out there, and attitude is not everything,a great looking face and fine body help you too.

Oh man I'm trying to be a college student next year meanwhile hopefully can work as a makeup artists in Nordstrom.

What do you guys think about this?

I feel like if you're a guy, attitude is everything (I recently met a guy 8 yrs. older than me who wasn't that hot but was so cool and confident that I'm now crushing on.) But if you're a girl, I feel like the first thing a guy sees is your body. My dad once told me two things I think are very telling about men:

1. "When a guy sees a girl, he either thinks 'I like that,' or 'no, not really.' "

2. "When a guy walks into a room, he looks for the girl with the prettiest face. Once he finds that, he tries to find a girl with just as pretty of a face but with a better body."

And I'm just like . . . ?#^&!@

Being physically attractive, as you describe it, can help(depending on the type of job). But you also need to have matching self-confidence. People tell me I'm attractive, but job interviews have always been a frightening experience for me as I'm also a very anxious person(I have PTSD). So I would say that self-confidence is more important than "looks".

Your dad's wrong. Please don't go by the sexist and patronising opinion of one person, who makes the mistake of believing that a woman with a hot body will always get the job.

I think your dad is living in the dark ages.

That's honestly the dumbest thing I've head in a long time.

People don't employ women on that basis any more. If they did, companies would be full of shapely bimbettes with nothing to do, but make the company a loss....

Please....!

The women in my company are absolutely anything BUT sexy oil paintings - but they know their stuff, and work cohesively, efficiently and professionally.

OP, work diligently, study well, look after yourself and be sensible. Know your limitations, work on where you excel. Develop what you know you're good at. Confidence will arise in leaps and bounds. Your attitude is something that you cultivate and develop as you mature.

Not true in some industries, especially show business/modelling and fashion. All the ladies in my local shopping centre working in the fashion/cosmetics departments are slim and pretty.

Yes, I wasn't actually referring to, or considering those particular industries as they are irrelevant, currently, to the OP's question.... I'm aware that in SOME industries, looks are of paramount importance....

But that wasn't directly the OP's question....

OP mentioned she wants to work as a makeup artist.

Yes, but BEING a makeup artist doesn't mean you have to LOOK "A million dollars".

Many great make-up artists were/are male, too...

This may help...

Yes, she's attractive, but it took pluck, luck and determination.

And confidence.

Well, if OP wants to be a makeup artist in retail, unfortunately the "pretty" applicants are chosen first. From my own experience being served by staff, product knowledge comes second.

Sorry, I didn't mean to offend anyone here, just angry at the amount of money I've wasted on products due to unskilled retail staff.

We each have our own unique and individual talents and intelligence, regardless of our apprearances.

You make my point.

Companies may well employ on looks, but when it comes to expertise, knowledge, ability and general job-skills, it pays to know what you're talking about. More than how you look.

I don't consider myself in any way attractive. I look younger than my years, but that doesn't mean 'attractive'. But I know my job.

There are girls in my department who are so much prettier, younger and better looking than I, but guess who my bosses go to, when they want a particular task accomplished efficiently and skilfully...?

Me.

Me.

When I was studying I got a waitering and bar job with no experience. At the interview he didn't want to look at my resume. He just said "you have a lovely smile" and I was chosen. I worked there all through my degree, but I was also not suited to the job so didn't improve much. Boy, what a hopeless waiter I

was!!

While I generally agree with this, there are women I know in my own life that have gotten pretty far on their looks,,,They aren't dumbells, but they have soared far above where they would normally have if they were of average or below average in looks......

If you watch any news cast here, even the Weather Channel, you will see nothing but big breasted and sharp looking women...There has to be something to this...Not only guys watch these shows..

For guys attitude is absolutely necessary...

Ive seen/ heard the phrase that "Women are sex objects and men are success objects"...May not be set in stone, but I do see some truth in that statement..

Appearance is more important in some fields then others. I don't really care what the engineer who builds my bridge looks like as long as the bridge is structurally sound. You are right that no one is going to buy expensive makeup at a high end department store from someone who looks like they just rolled out of bed. But you don't have to model beautiful either. A smile, an upbeat personality & a winning attitude will be very helpful.

Like most things in life, no single attribute is the panacea. You need a combo of things to succeed.
