Ok I will get ready for the harsh responses but here goes.. The way I look at it.. I paid $180 to fulfill something I wanted to do.. I'm sorry that there are girls in other countries that are getting raped and what not.. Does it affect me personally ? No so I dont really give a toss. Prostitution is one of the oldest trades in the world. It was one of the first professions that females had, in ancient times. There were Roman temples that had prostitutes that lived and worked at the temples.

 

In any case, I personally think prostitution should be legalized. IMO, it's like abortion. Although I don't believe in abortion and would never do it myself, I realize that people are never going to just stop because I think it's wrong. So, better to have a semi-regulated industry than no regulation at all. I'm just sayin'. You can effectively reduce the spread of disease and the number of underage prostitutes by providing a legal alternative that is regulated by the federal government. I'm not saying eliminate because God knows, in our capitalist economy, as long as there is a market the goods will be provided somehow....but I'm talking about harm reduction.

 

There is a sex trade, it's alive and flourishing, and just because I don't agree with it/approve of it will not make it disappear.

Not the way people think. You cant comb the streets or camp on a street corner. That is still illegal.

Actually, drugs and violence are historically at higher levels when something is made illegal. For example, the prohibition era in the early 1900s led to the growth of crime syndicates that were funded by the sales of illegal alcohol, which has a massively inflated price precisely because it is illegal. Read any information about the prohibition era for more information regarding this well-documented trend.

I think you are failing to think out the entirety of the proposition - there would be no place for pimps if prostitution were legalized because, to be honest, the federal government would take that position. Prostitutes could get licenses and be cleared via a health screening at the County health department, and their earnings would be taxed. But I get the feeling that I could make a spreadsheet explaining the process of legitimizing something like this and you would still object because of your own private morality.

 

But to quote a once-famous politician, you cannot legistlate private morality.

 

I also encourage you to do some research on the subject of prohibition before answering.

Actually that would be a good example of how prostitution would be setup if it were may legal nation wide.

Think of a health spa with no massages, just a lot of happy endings.

 

 

Drugs is irrelelvant to prostitution because addicts turn to prostitution to support their habit. Two completely diffrent things.

 

Companies use drug screening for job applicants. In Nevada they do the same thing for the brothels. As well as, STD checkups to boot for all prostitutes.

 

Violence goes away because all "transactions" is done under the same roof (brothel). No chance for a serial killer to pickup a girl and take her to some place.

 

IMO, properly regulated, prostitution will be more beneficial to society if it were legal then illegal.

 

I think the biggest hurdle is getting past the moral implication and stigma associated with prostituion. A good example would be the religious groups.

What intrigues me is that those men paid for services from a woman - nonsexual services to be sure, but services none the less. What is it about a female that makes men so eager for just their company? Just the presence of a female? And beyond that, sex as well, perhaps the cherry on top so to speak. The propensity for male company among women is just not the same.

I saw a documentary on Geishas. Very interesting. Women train to be Geishas for 5 years. While in training they are called Maiko.

 

From a Japanese mans standpoint, what attracts them to Geisha's is their submissiveness to everything they say. Speaking from an intellectual point, not sexual.
